New Balances Are The New "It" Shoe At PFW

by Melanie Richtman

Paris is the fashion capital of the world. Once a trend takes hold in Paris, it's likely that it will quickly spread throughout the world. With Paris Fashion Week in full swing, I noticed one trend was consistently popping up on street style stars and Parisian women alike (yes, I was one of those crazy fashion people who hung out at shows, hoping to see celebrities and/or get standing room). New Balance sneakers are becoming trendy again. Seriously. While other sneaker brands appeared, Parisians seemed to favor New Balances in particular.

This new trend is rather surprising, considering the age-old stereotype of Americans standing out in Europe because of their white New Balance sneakers. Oh, how the tables have turned. These days you'll see a chic Parisian woman running around in a colorful pair of New Balances, looking fabulous and comfortable. Now that's a trend I can get behind.

And if Parisian women and street style stars wearing New Balances aren't a convincing enough reason to rock a pair yourself, here are a few other reasons why you should get ahead of this sneaker trend in the United States.

1. J.Crew has a line of New Balances

Which basically proves that they're going to be the next big thing (Women's New Balance for J.Crew 620 Sneakers, $80, jcrew.com)

2. They're comfortable

Perfect for running around town — whether you're running errands or running to fashion shows. Or just running.

3. They look really great with pants — specifically wide leg pants and cropped pants (culottes, anyone?)

It seems like they would look weird with all pants, but for some reason, these sneakers just work.

4. Did I mention they're super comfortable?

Like a slightly better looking version of Ugg boots. Remember how comfortable we all were in 2002?

5. They are more widely available (and more affordable) than Yeezy Boosts

Kanye is cool, but who has time to get on the wait list for these sold out shoes? Not me. It's time to capitalize on the sneaker trend now... with New Balances.

6. There is a collection of New Balances available exclusively at Bergdorfs. BERGDORFS.

If Bergdorfs is selling an exclusive line of New Balances, you know they're going to be around for a while.

7. I saw French teenagers wearing New Balances

That's literally the only reason you need.
