Demi Lovato Celebrates Inspiring Anniversary

by Chelsea Mize

Demi Lovato has grown up in the spotlight with all eyes on her from an early age. The singer has also waged a very public battle against her personal demons, making no secret of her journey to overcome her struggles with addiction, mental illness, eating disorders, and self-harm. On Sunday, Lovato celebrated three years of sobriety alongside Wilder Valderrama, her longtime boyfriend. She thanked Valderrama for his unwavering supporting, saying she wouldn't be alive today without him.

The same day, to commemorate the singer's anniversary of sobriety, Valderrama posted a tribute to Lovato on Instagram with a photo of a sunset painting, alongside a touching message that read:

It is now 3 years since you said: I am more important then any past, demon, disorder or addiction.. Where you decided that YOUR life was worth living while loving yourself.. And I'm sure glad you did... I knew then the woman you've become now.. I am proud and honor to be front row to see the world you are about to change. I love you Demi

Demi Lovato has proven herself to be a role model not just for young girls everywhere but for anyone struggling with mental illness, eating disorders, or addiction. Lovato has actively campaigned against the stigma associated with mental illness. She has also passionately fought for addiction to be treated as the disease that it is.

Living a life that is constantly scrutinized can't be easy. That Lovato has lived in the public eye while dealing with recovery from an eating disorder, addiction, and coping with mental illness is truly a feat to be admired.

Lovato is more than a former Disney Channel star or a pop singer. She is a walking reminder to anyone struggling with these demons that they can be vanquished. Her third anniversary of sobriety is a special moment not just for Lovato, but for any of her fans and followers looking for the inspiration and courage to get the help they need.
