Ashley Tisdale's "He Said, She Said" Video Rules

For decades, The Disney Channel has been the launching pad for young actor/singers' careers: Hannah Montana was only the beginning for Miley Cyrus; after Wizards of Waverly Place, Selena Gomez doubled down on recording music; Lizzie McGuire star Hilary Duff would go on to make many beloved movies and many beloved songs; several members of The Mickey Mouse Club became some of the biggest celebrities of their generation. But one of my favorite Disney Channel stars hails from The Suite Life of Zach & Cody and the High School Musical franchise. I am, but of course, talking about Sharpay Evans. The one and only Ashley Tisdale.

In 2007, just one year after HSMfans met and fell in love with Sharpay for the first time, the Tiz dropped debut album Headstrong. The terrific album boasts several pop bangers, but the standout is “He Said, She Said". No question about it. Given that that the song was Headstrong's biggest hit, my assertion isn't exactly a hot take, but it is the truth. To this day, if I hear that tinny organ intro play over the P.A. system at a grocery store, I have to resist every urge to stomp it out up and down the aisles. (No joke, I've heard "He Said, She Said" at least three times while browsing Trader Joe's cookie selection. It's as if DJ TJ is testing me.)

The music video for "He Said, She Said" tells a story about a young woman who develops a crush on a young man the instant her hand grazes his hand. She snaps a photo of him with her camera phone. And then, she proceeds to dance out her feelings. It’s fantastic. Dare I say, it is underrated. What do I mean by that, exactly? Well, it didn’t receive the accolades or acclaim it deserves. (Which accolades do I believe this music video deserves, exactly? ALL OF THEM. GIVE THIS VIDEO ALL OF THE TROPHIES.)
