10 Dresses Kim Should Wear To This Year's Met Gala

by Kara Weymouth

If there is one thing Kim Kardashian actually has a talent for, it's creating a stir on the red carpet — and one of those biggest stirs was Kim Kardashian's Met Gala dress in 2013. From her love of all white everything, to practically stopping Paris Fashion Week with her platinum hair, and a custom Givenchy wedding dress, Kim's style has come a long way since her days as Paris Hilton's sidekick. Of course, Kanye's wife has had some sartorial growing pains along the way, like the aforementioned Givenchy gown many compared to someone's grandmother's couch, but for the most part I'm usually awed and inspired by Kim's wardrobe.

This year's Costume Institute Gala launches China: Through The Looking Glass at the Met and our red carpet expectations are high. Guests are encouraged to dress to the theme of the exhibit, though we're hoping there's more honoring of traditional prints than full-on cultural appropriation or orientalism. Of course, I have some opinions on what I'd like to see Kim wearing as she climbs those iconic stairs on May. You know, in case she's struggling to make a decision.

1. Vivienne Tam Spring 2015

Kim (understandably) shied away from prints last year, but this blue and white print gown is a nice nod to the Ming Dynasty's famous porcelain. Inspired by Vivienne's own visit to the Forbidden City, it's less form fitting than past Kardashian picks, but the peek-a-boo mesh keeps it sexy.

2. Vionnet Haute Couture Fall 2015

Vionnet's draping kimono sleeves are a dream and Kardashian always looks fantastic in sleek champagne... especially now that she's a brunette again!

3. Zuhair Murad Haute Couture Fall 2015

I'm pretty sure Kanye would approve of Kim's curves in this embellished Zuhair Murad gown. Can't you just picture her rocking this slit Jolie style?

4. Tom Ford Spring 2015

If anyone can get away with a sequin catsuit and cape at the biggest red carpet of the year, it's Kim Kardashian West. Tom Ford has a fickle relationship with celebrity, but something tells me he'd enjoy seeing this subversive number at the Met.

5. Carolina Herrera Spring 2015

One thing we haven't really seen from Kim is a classic ball gown. Carolina Herrera's watercolor dress is a familiar shape, but the sharp neckline, shattered print, and sheer skirt keep things interesting.

6. Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen

The blue and white version of this Alexander McQueen Fall 2011 gown is actually in the exhibit, but the intricate pattern and beadwork of this mini dress also suits the evening's theme.

7. Roberto Cavalli Fall 2005

Kim will need a lot of swagger to rock this mermaid style gown from Roberto Cavalli's Fall 2005 collection better than Daria Werbowy on the runway, but I think she can manage it!

8. Louis Vuitton Spring 2011

Marc Jacob's 1920s-inspired collection for Louis Vuitton Spring 2011 blended his love of Asian culture and the art deco style. The nipped waist always looks great on Kim and she often favors a similar neckline for evening.

9. Balenciaga Fall 2015

I wouldn't be surprised to see Kim wearing this heavily embellished Balenciaga piece by Chinese-American designer Alexander Wang since she sat front row at the show in Paris. The dramatic metal top doesn't show much skin, but it's wow factor can't be denied.

10. Marni Fall 2015

Since Kim Kardashian is known for her bombshell style, what would be more shocking than this white dress from Marni? Kim could embrace minimalism with a sleek ponytail and flatform sandals.
