Why Melissa Really Designed A Clothing Line

We all rejoiced when hilarious actress Melissa McCarthy announced her foray into the fashion world. The body positive actress has been a champion for plus sized ladies everywhere, pointing out that malls segregate clothing and giving us life when she called out a critic on Ellen. While she's done such amazing things for body positivity, the Melissa McCarthy Seven7 clothing line is a selfish endeavor, at least according to the actress.

McCarthy spoke with People about her latest project and gave some insight into why she decided to launch Melissa McCarthy Seven7. McCarthy says, "I started this line because I wanted to know: Where are the normal clothes? This really is a selfish venture. I wanted to build a better closet for myself.” While the talented comedian may view the line as selfish, we can't really blame her for wanting to expand her closet, especially since it's going to help us do the same!

The line will feature a variety of styles ranging in sizes 4-28— talk about inclusivity!— but there is one thing that will definitely be a staple. A sleeve! McCarthy understands that sleeves are a key part of a any wardrobe despite being told by a manufacturer that they were not. She explains, "I was like, ‘Are you crazy? That’s not accurate! I am plus-size, and I want them [sleeves], I have friends who are size 26 and size 8 and they want a sleeve! Very few things [in Seven7] don’t have sleeves. My stuff has sleeves, my stuff has pockets, you can count on that.”

McCarthy's line is definitely on our "to get" list. After the amazing sneak peek during the launch, we can't wait for the release date in August to get here. So, the big question is, can I please preorder that amazing cat sweater?
