This 'Irrational Man' Star Is All Over Hollywood

Irrational Man is the newest movie from Woody Allen, marking the director's 50th year creating major feature films. The movie, out July 17, has a star-studded cast, including Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone and Parker Posey, as Abe, Jill, and Rita, respectively. But there's another rising star in the film who you're going to want to know — who plays Jill's boyfriend in Irrational Man ? Even if you can't remember his name, you'll probably have one of those "I know I've seen him somewhere in something" moments when he pops up onscreen. If you find yourself puzzling over where the actor is from, I can help you out. His name is Jamie Blackley, and you've definitely seen him before.

The 24-year-old actor is best known for his portrayal of Adam in last year's tearjerker If I Stay, based on Gayle Forman's YA bestseller. In this role, Blackley was an up-and-coming rockstar who showed his soft side via his relationship with Chloe Grace Moretz's character. His performance was heartfelt enough to make you swoon, and it was made even more impressive by the fact that Blackley recorded the music that his character's band Williamette Stone plays in the film.

But you've probably seen Blackley prior to this breakout role. He had small roles in Snow White and the Huntsman and The Fifth Element, as well as starring in lesser-known films such as 2013's Uwantme2killhim? and We Are The Freaks. Prior to these, the actor gained experience in a variety of indie films. His first cinematic appearance was in the Bollywood movie London Dreams in 2009, leading to roles in Prowl, Vinyl, and Tribeca Film Festival selection And While We Were Here. He also appeared on multiple UK TV shows, including Myths, Casualty, Doctors, and Misfits. Blackley is no stranger when it comes to the stage, either. His first major role was in a London production of Spring Awakening , in which he played Hanschen. Blackley also appeared as George Harrison in a London stage adaptation of Backbeat, based on the 1994 film.

So all of the above tells us where Blackley has been, but where is he originally from? The actor was born in 1991 on the Isle of Man, where he lived before moving to London. Blackley isn't the only famous Manx actor, however; Samantha Barks of Les Miserables is also from the island! And, much like Barks, Blackley's career doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Up next for Blackley is Kids in Love , a British drama co-starring Will Poulter (We're The Millers) and Cara Delevingne. Unfortunately, it's been awhile in the works, and there's no release date yet in sight. When it does finally come out, though, you can be sure that everyone will be thrilled to see Blackley's career get even bigger and better.
