Fact: Carlton Banks' Style Is Totally Iconic

by Daniela Cabrera

It's been nearly 20 years since The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air ended, we are still talking about the Banks family, which really speaks of the show's lasting power on pop culture. Most of us '90s babies grew up with Will Smith tormenting his fancy family in the swanky Los Angeles neighborhood, and were undoubtedly influenced by the music and style of the main characters. I always loved Hilary Banks' style, as it perfectly captured the excess and flashy elements of style in the decade, and with the current '90s revival in full swing, her outfits are that much more relevant. While Will and Hilary stood out as the most obvious stylish characters, don't let Carlton Banks' preppy Fresh Prince of Bel-Air style fool you — he knew how to throw together an outfit, too.

Sure, he wasn't as trendy as the others, but Carlton always stayed true to his preppy roots and created looks that are just as iconic as his family members'. Instead of layering on the flashy accessories, oversized hats, and sneakers, Carlton rocked some timeless outfits that, let's be real, are still favored by frat boys all over the country today — and probably will be for a long time to come.

Because of this, I had our design team whip up a little pie chart to guide you on how exactly to conjure up the country club spirit of our favorite sweater-wearing Banks sibling.

OK, so "The Carlton Dance" isn't an article of clothing, but it's a fail-proof way to become Carlton.
