Kelly Clarkson Needs A Squad Invite From T. Swift

by Tracy Dye

It wasn't long ago that pop music matriarch, Kelly Clarkson, slayed with her rendition of "Jealous" by Nick Jonas. The crooner has proven herself to be a cover queen once more, as in a fan-posted a video on July 25, you can watch Clarkson take on the Taylor Swift hit "Blank Space." The stripped down rendition (and totally on fleek performance) perfectly showcases Clarkson's inimitable range and is sure to be one both Clarkson and Swift fans will want to watch on a continuous loop.

This isn't the first time Clarkson has shown some Swift appreciation onstage. In October 2014, the singer covered "Shake It Off," and the performance was impressive enough to garner a shoutout from Swift, herself. "Watching Kelly Clarkson SLAY 'Shake It Off' is an excellent way to celebrate 26 HOURS TIL 1989!!!!!" she emphatically tweeted. She apparently loved Clarkson's "Blank Space" cover too, as a day after the performance, she tweeted, "Kelly Clarkson covered Blank Space and YES."

It's not a surprise that Clarkson would want to cover more than one Swift hit — the songs from 1989 are the ultimate ear candy. Still, I can't help but wonder if there is another motivation for the repeated renditions. Could Clarkson be seeking an invite into Swift's ever-growing squad? In the past year, fans have watched Swift's bevy of famous friends expand faster than you can say "Ed Sheeran." Heck, it seemed like pretty much every celebrity in existence made a cameo in the "Bad Blood" music video, and the "Style" singer even invited the entire Women's National Soccer Team onstage.

I, for one, feel like Clarkson is more than worthy of an invite into Swift's epic squad. Let's take a look at some of the evidence, shall we?

1. Both Singers Are Super Talented

Skills.

2. Both Aren't Afraid To Be Silly

These ladies let their goofball flags fly frequently, which is part of why we love them.

3. There Is Always Room In Swift's Squad

Being that Swift appears to be making new friends on the regular, there would be more than enough room for Clarkson in the squad.

4. Both Understand The Highs & Lows Of Fame

They would definitely have a lot to talk about.

5. A Squad Invite Could Open The Door For A Clarkson/Swift Duet

Said duet may also be titled, "The Best Song Of All Time."

6. Both Aren't Afraid To Speak Their Minds

Both these ladies have inspired with their fierce confidence and assertiveness.

7. Both Have Country Music Experience

Swift made her mark in country music before transitioning to pop. Clarkson, on the other hand, dabbled in country by singing on "Don't You Wanna Stay" with Jason Aldean. And, oh yeah, Clarkson also happens to be married to Reba McEntire's son.

I think I've made my point. It's time for Clarkson to earn an exclusive squad invite ASAP.
