Since its inception, TikTok has become a major hub for trends in fashion, pop culture, music, food, and more. With more than 1 billion users (as of September 2021), the app sets the tone for what’s hot in today’s world, and that often includes wacky food and drink trends. Among the stylized and impressively produced videos of homemade cocktails and charcuterie boards exists a world of edible experimentation. Take the “healthy coke” trend, for example. On June 7, user @mandyvjones posted a video of herself trying out a very odd concoction using sparkling water and, believe it or not, balsamic vinegar. The goal was for the drink to taste like a Coca Cola.

It may sound like an awful pairing, but once Jones’ video went viral, tons of other TikTok users began trying it — and some even seemed to enjoy the combination. The hashtag #healthycoke now has 4.6 million views and counting, so it’s clear that the trend made the rounds quickly on the app. From dietitians to influencers to the average user, plenty of TikTokers have given the strange mixture a shot. If you’re wondering why on earth this combination came to be, or want to give it a shot yourself, here’s everything you need to know about the “healthy coke” TikTok trend.

What Is The “Healthy Coke” Trend?

Like many other interesting health trends on the app, the healthy coke TikTok idea went viral quickly. In early June, Amanda Jones, under the username @mandyvjones, posted a video of herself mixing a glass of ice with a guava-flavored La Croix and a splash of balsamic vinegar. She explained that her Pilates instructor makes the drink almost every day and that it is supposed to taste just like Coke, albeit a “healthier alternative.”

Once she mixed the ingredients together, she tried the odd combo and was shocked to find that it, in her words, “tastes like a Coke.” Within 24 hours of posting the video, her Pilates instructor’s recipe became an overnight sensation. While there were, of course, plenty of negative comments like “JAIL!” and “have you ever had a coke” posted on Jones’ video, some users who also tried the mixture seemed to agree with her.

How To Make The Viral “Healthy Coke”

Curious to give your balsamic vinegar a little sparkle? Making your own “healthy coke” TikTok video is extremely simple. All you need is a can of sparkling water (according to most users, any flavor will do), and a splash of balsamic vinegar. Mix them together in a cup of ice, and film your reaction. Using the TikTok video recorder and editor will make the process even easier, and help you join in on this wild trend.
