12 Things To Watch On Netflix In December Based On Your Sign

by Amy Roberts

Christmas is right around the corner, but you shouldn't let that dictate your decisions about what to watch on Netflix in December. No ma'am. Instead, you should look to your zodiac sign for inspiration, because whatever personality traits you may have as part of your sign are a terrific barometer of what you'll actually enjoy watching. It may feel fun and festive to watch as many Christmas movies and TV specials as possible in the lead up to the holidays, but you also need a little break from the festivities every now and then too. Unless you're a Capricorn, in which case there'll be no interrupting your traditional Christmas viewing schedule. And that's coo. You do you, Cap.

With some amazing new TV shows and movies added to Netflix in December, there's plenty of fresh viewing opportunities to be had. But there's also a lot of entertainment that's been on there for a little while that's definitely worth you revisiting, or watching for the first time. With that in mind, all of the following recommendations offer selections both old and new for your December viewing. Crucially, all of them offer specific vibes, perspectives, and genres perfectly picked to compliment the characteristics of your zodiac sign. It's written in the stars people...

1Aquarius — 'Okja'

This Netflix Original has just about everything an Aquarius could want from a movie. It's plot line, about a young girl who takes on a powerful company in order to save her bestie (a pig-like creature called Okja,) will appeal to your emotional side. Meanwhile the way that the movie addresses ideas of animal rights and ethics will appeal to your progressive politics. Though deep, it's also a lot of fun, too, with some unsettling comedic performances from Jake Gyllenhaal and Tilda Swinton.

2Pisces — 'Hello, My Twenties!'

This South Korean TV show is one of Netflix's most wonderful hidden gems, and one that will delight every sensitive Piscean who watches it. Focusing on the lives of five very different young women in shared accommodation, Hello, My Twenties! can be dramatic, hilarious, and emotional, while also being full of satisfying feminist statements. The show's affinity for occasional absurdist humor will also satisfy the Piscean's need for escapism. Bonus: Hello, My Twenties! premieres on Netflix on Dec. 18, so be sure to marathon watch the first season in time for that.

3Aries — 'Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol. 2'

Because you're a born leader full of optimism and boundless courage, you definitely need to kick back with the second volume of Guardians Of The Galaxy. Though Peter Quill, Rocket, Drax, and Gamora may not share your idealist worldview, they definitely reflect your penchant for fearless bravado and heroics. Both of which, you can see plenty of in this hit sequel.

4Taurus — 'Sing Street'

Combining your love for great music and your weakness for romance, Sing Street will have you swooning and dancing in equal amounts. The 2016 coming-of-age musical is full of feelgood characters and plot points, but my goodness, it'll have you weeping by the end credits. And that's basically the average Taurus' hallmark of the perfect movie right there.

5Gemini — 'Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold'

Geminis love movies that stimulate their intelligence, but as the chattiest zodiac sign, they also enjoy being able to watch a movie that they can say a whole lot about. This revealing documentary about the legendary U.S. writer delivers precisely that. Made by Didion's nephew, Griffin Dunne, the movie is as fascinating as it is warm and intimate, providing a compelling portrait of a woman who led an incredible life and career. One that you'll definitely be wanting to hit pause on so you can talk in depth about specific points with whatever family or friends you watch it with.

6Cancer — 'Jim And Andy: The Great Beyond'

Like the late, great comedian Andy Kaufman, and the actor Jim Carrey who portrayed him in the 1999 movie, Man On The Moon, people born within Cancer are totally misunderstood and underappreciated for their artistic talents. This documentary, which features behind the scenes footage of Carrey in the movie while profiling the actor's intense transformation into Kaufman — both on and off the screen — will no doubt inspire your very own intensely creative side.

7Leo — 'Chicago'

Exploring the connections between scandal and celebrity in 1920's America, this 2002 movie version of the classic musical still feels startlingly relevant today. As the most dramatic sign of the Zodiac, you'll relish the gleefully extravagant performances from actors like Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renée Zellweger, and Queen Latifah. You'll also be reminded of the fact that breaking out into a rousing rendition of "Cell Block Tango," in order to silence a man mid-argument is a viable option, and a great one.

8Virgo — 'The Jungle Book'

Since you're most at home in nature, surrounded by animals, The Jungle Book is the movie you absolutely need to be watching in December. It's upbeat energy will vibe with your overall spirit and keep you feeling full of light in what can be a cold, dark month. But also, you're also such a Mowgli it's unreal, my Virgo friend.

9Libra — 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'

Rogue One is the perfect movie to compliment your diplomatic vibe, while also giving you that outer space edge that will satiate your explorer side. Plus, since you've already totally got your midnight screening tickets for Star Wars: The Last Jedi pre-booked and ready, you know that you're going to want to warm yourself up by watching at least one other Star Wars movie before you go.

10Scorpio — 'Life Partners'

Damn, you're passionate, Scorpio. And that's something that's evident from just about every aspect of your life. Which is why this underrated indie comedy is perfect for you. Starring Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl,) Gillian Jacobs (Love and Community,) and Adam Brody (The O.C.,) the movie's cast is phenomenal in and of itself. But the plotline, which follows a passionate friendship being threatened by a new romance, is something that you will have a lot of passionate feelings about.

11Sagittarius — 'Terrace House: Aloha State'

This critically acclaimed Japanese reality show, which follows six young men and women sharing a house, looking for love, and experiencing the ups and downs of life, is perfect for how philosophical you are, Sagittarius. You'll have a lot to think about and talk about in your enjoyment of these people and their predicaments. However, you'll also go wild for the intermittent sections of hilarious studio commentary delivered by six on-point comedians and the stunning Hawaiian locations glimpsed in each episode. Once you've marathon watched the whole series (which you will very quickly), you should move immediately onto the first season of the show — Terrace House: Boys And Girls In The City, set in Tokyo.

12Capricorn — 'Disney's The Santa Clause'

As the most traditional zodiac sign, you're likely not planning on watching anything in December unless it's Christmas related. And fair play to you on that one. Luckily for you, The Santa Clause 1, 2 and 3 are all coming to Netflix on Dec. 12. And yes, you should watch all three of them in one day while surrounded by your whole family and plenty of great food. It's the Capricorn way, folks.

As a final recommendation, and one that should suit the needs of every zodiac sign, be sure to enjoy your specific Netflix recommendation with a gigantic pizza, festive cookies, and a tall glass of your favorite drink. It's December, after all, guys. Treat yourself. All the stars approve.
