After seven years, Aria, Spencer, Hanna, Emily, and Alison are finally free from their cyber-stalking, slightly murderous, torturer. In the series finale of Pretty Little Liars, A.D. was unmasked and the girls all got their happily ever after. Not so happy are the fans, who are already missing the crazy twists and turns only PLL could provide. And that's why I made a list of 17 movies PLL fans should watch if they're missing the show. Because nothing can fill a Pretty Little Liars-sized hole in a television lover's heart quite like 30 hours of high school drama and mean girls.
Since PLL debuted in 2010, the liars have been through a lot of changes, as have their audiences. The girls have gone from high school queen bees to murder suspects, to full grown adults, and to actual murderers, in the blink of an eye (or a well-orchestrated time jump). Whether you're a fan who loved PLL for its high school drama or someone who lived for every death and murder mystery, there are movies for you. Granted, no film can ever truly replace PLL in our hearts (or our television schedules), but, just like when Spencer (spoiler alert!) almost axed her identical twin to death in the PLL finale, fans have no choice but to try.
1'Heathers'
If Heathers doesn't fill your "teen girls commit murder" needs, then nothing else will.
2'The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants'
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is like what would happen to the PLLs in an alternate universe where Ali didn't exist and everyone just loved each other.
3'I Know What You Did Last Summer'
I Know What You Did Last Summer is about murder, guilt, and a mysterious stalker threatening to kill a group of teenagers. Sound familiar?
4'Mean Girls'
Say what you will about Mean Girls top mean girl, Regina George, but at least she never faked her death.
5'Cruel Intentions'
Like PLL, Cruel Intentions centers around a super dark and super twisted heightened version of high school. It will make you extremely thankful to have graduated.
6'Unfriended'
Unfriended has everything: murder, cyberbullying, and video chat.
8'10 Things I Hate About You'
10 Things I Hate About You is a bit lighter on the female friendships than PLL, but it makes up for it in unapologetic feminism.
9'Easy A'
Easy A is basically about how lies can spin out of control. It's just like PLL, but without the murders or missing girls.
10'Now And Then'
Now and Then is perfect for fans who watched PLL solely for the female friendships. (I see you and I appreciate you.)
11'Jawbreaker'
Jawbreaker is another insane high school black comedy about queen bees who accidentally commit murder, so, you know, basically PLL but with more snark.
12'The Virgin Suicides'
The Virgin Suicides isn't really anything like PLL tone-wise, but if what drew you to the series was the idea of women feeling trapped, then this Sofia Coppola movie is the one for you.
13'The Craft'
I cannot be the only person who has ever wondered what the PLLs might do with magical powers...
14'Drop Dead Gorgeous'
Drop Dead Gorgeous is teenage murder, but with beauty pageants. So, think of it as one long special event episode.
15'Fried Green Tomatoes'
Want to watch a movie about women who stand together no matter what? Grab a box of tissues and cuddle up with Fried Green Tomatoes.
16'Girl, Interrupted'
Imagine Girl, Interrupted is set in Radley, and you've got yourself a Pretty Little Liars spinoff.
17'The Women'
There were no men allowed in this classic Hollywood film about a group of women who are, alternatively, the best of friends and the best of gossips. Remind you of anybody?
Bonus: If you're wondering what Hanna, Spencer, Emily, Aria, and Ali might be up to in the future, check out HBO's Big Little Lies. It's not a movie, but it will definitely make you forget about PLL for a few hours.
