There's always room for one more in the Winchester family business. As reported by Variety, Danneel Ackles is joining Supernatural, finally making your dreams of a One Tree Hill crossover come true. Danneel is the real-life wife of Supernatural star Jensen Ackles, and is best known for her role as Rachel Gatina on One Tree Hill. The couple previously worked together in the 2007 comedy Ten Inch Hero.
Danneel's Supernatural character sounds like she'll have little in common with Rachel — unless Rachel's life took a surprising turn after Dan divorced her in One Tree Hill Season 7. The actor is set to recur as Sister Jo, who Variety describes as, "a well-known faith healer whose good works attract the attention of someone very, very bad: Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino)." While it's unclear how many episodes Danneel is signed on for, her first appearance will be in episode 13 of Season 13.
Just because she's a "Sister" doesn't mean Jo will be all good, though. In the world of Supernatural, characters are rarely ever that black-and-white, so it's entirely possible there could be a scam element to Sister Jo's faith healing. All the character really needs to give One Tree Hill fans a whole lot of feelings is an attitude that won't stop. And, in an perfect world, Dean Winchester will end up being Sister Jo's biggest fan, just like Jensen is Danneel's.
Once the news of Danneel's casting was announced, stars of both the One Tree Hill and Supernatural casts stepped up to offer their congratulations on Twitter. That just goes to show how supportive the casts of these two iconic WB/CW shows are of each other. One of the first to chime in was Jensen, and his response to the news was priceless.
In typical Jensen fashion, he offered up a hilarious tweet to celebrate Danneel joining the onscreen Supernatural family. "Wait...what?!!!" he tweeted in response to the news. Since Danneel and Jensen have been married for seven years, it's safe to say she's been part of the offscreen family for some time now. The couple also has three children together — Justice, Arrow, and Zeppelin. Since Supernatural is showing no signs of slowing down, maybe they can get in on the fun one of these days too.
Misha Collins, who plays Castiel, sounds like he's just as excited as Jensen is about Danneel's role. He tweeted, "About time." And Danneel responded flawlessly with, "Yes, 'Our' plan is finally coming to fruition!!" It sounds like these two are going to take the Supernatural set by storm.
Even though she's officially joining the Supernatural cast, Danneel's first TV family will always be the One Tree Hill gang. One of her best pals, Hilarie Burton, offered up the sweetest response to Danneel's new role. She tweeted,
"This lady is one of the great loves of my life. Can't wait to see her in action!!! Congrats @DanneelHarris !!!"
Is it too late for Sister Jo to have a partner in crime? Because Burton would be perfect for the role. It's been way too long since the last time Danneel and Burton shared the screen, but it's good to know they've never stopped having each other's backs. (And Burton is already an honorary member of the Supernatural family anyway since she's married to John Winchester himself, Jeffrey Dean Morgan.)
While the Winchesters will probably never hunt ghosts in Tree Hill, Danneel's role is the next best thing. Thanks to Jensen and Danneel, the Supernatural and One Tree Hill casts have always been connected. Now that Danneel is joining her husband on his long-running series about saving people and hunting things, the crossover is finally TV official.
If you feel like channeling your inner Rachel and offering up a cheer, go ahead. Because Danneel joining Supernatural is news worth freaking out over.
