All right, so I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that the dads from The Bachelor's Hometown Visits can rest easy, because their potential future-son-in-law reportedly has a new gig lined up: Nick Viall is rumored to be joining Dancing with the Stars for next season. The official cast announcement won't be made until Mar. 1, but, in the meantime, E! has a source claiming that The Bachelor star will be following in the footsteps of past Bachelors like Sean Lowe and Chris Soules and showing off his moves come the Season 24 premiere on Mar. 20. Sounds great, and I'm real happy for you, Nick Viall, but, as the Hometown dads have surely put together at this point, Dancing With The Stars is far from a long-term gig. It's... yet another TV show.
Before I get too far into this, I do want to reiterate that this is still just a rumor. Bustle reached out to ABC about Viall's involvement with DWTS Season 24, who responded that, "We do not comment on casting rumors. The full cast will be announced on GMA on 3/1." But I've never been what you'd call a patient person, so it shouldn't surprise you that I'm taking the time until the Good Morning America announcement to think about what this would mean if it is true. (And, in the meantime, please enjoy what I assume is Viall's DWTS audition tape, included below.)
Keep. That. Beat. Nick. Anyway, the thing I want to talk about right away is the fact that this would be Viall's fifth reality show in a row. He first made his mark on Andi Dorfman's season of The Bachelorette in 2014, which he followed up with Kaitlyn Bristowe's season in 2015, followed by a stint on Bachelor in Paradise in 2016 and his own season of The Bachelor. So, basically, if the DWTS rumor is true, we might as well start referring to Viall's career as "Reality TV Show Contestant," because that's the job he's done for the past four years. Nice try, "Software Sales Executive."
Viall's reported involvement in the season was rumored at the same time that Glee star Heather Morris' name was dropped in connection to the season, and my second favorite thing about this announcement is how many credits Morris has to her name in comparison with Viall. In addition to starring on a show where she had to sing and dance, Morris was literally a backup dancer for Beyoncé. Meanwhile, this GIF of Viall strutting down a road in New Orleans is the the extent of his dance experience that I can discover online.
All I can say is I'm sincerely hoping that Viall will be a contestant, because he's going to be a very interesting one to watch. His partner will have their work cut out for them.
