Moonlight, a unique coming-of-age story that takes place in Miami, is nominated for pretty much every Academy Award there is. The film is up for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, and two of its stars (Naomie Harris and Mahershala Ali) are nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor respectively. So, of course the Moonlight cast turned it out on the Oscars red carpet in their most stage-worthy, let's-accept-this-award finest.
There was the lovely Janelle Monáe, who has received all sorts of accolades for her role as Teresa. The singer/dancer/actress (is there anything she can't do, btw?) is known for her quirky style, and her look Sunday night was no different. The actress walked the carpet in an eclectic yet totally regal black gown. It featured a high neck, sheer bodice, and ball gown-style skirt that poofed out for days. The dress was slightly reminiscent of her SAG Awards look from earlier this year — where she scooped up an award for her role in Hidden Figures) — which was also girly with a twist.
Then were was Naomie Harris (who got ready for the nigh with a luxe facial). The actress stunned in a short, strapless Calvin Klein dress. The sleek white look featured a little cutout detail and train, which paired so well with her minimalist jewels and swept back hair.
We also got to see the always dapper Mahershala Ali, who looked amazing in a a black tux. He paired it with a black shirt and black bowtie, with a black and white checked pocket square in his pocket. Take a look at their looks below.
I mean, c'mon. It doesn't get much more stunning than that.
The back was just as beautiful.
So chic.
Love the pops of color with her yellow shoes, and this gorgeous eyeshadow.
Swoon.
Such a good look.
