This Is When The Golden Globes Ceremony Starts

My favorite season has officially arrived — and I'm obviously not referring to winter and its freezing cold temps. Nope, it's finally awards show season and the 2017 Golden Globes will air live on NBC this Sunday, Jan. 8. Personally, I consider awards shows an all-day affair and I never want to miss a second of the pre-shows and the red carpet coverage. But, the show itself tends to be pretty long — so if you prefer to tune in just in time for the ceremony, you're probably wondering what time the 2017 Golden Globes start on NBC.

The live coverage of the Golden Globes will begin at 8 p.m. ET sharp — and the west coasters amongst us will want to tune in at 5 p.m., because this is one of the rare occasions when we get to watch a TV event at the same time as our friends on the opposite coast. (Plus, we don't need to avoid social media like the plague for fear of spoilers.) Of course, the major awards will be doled out towards the end of the evening — so the real reason to start watching at 8 p.m. on the dot is because Jimmy Fallon is hosting the 2017 ceremony. This is definitely something to get excited about — especially because his style of humor is so different from that of last year's host, Ricky Gervais, who rightfully ruffled some feathers at the 2016 ceremony due to a series of tasteless transphobic and sexist jokes. Based on his track record, I think it's safe to assume that Fallon will keep things both classy and hilarious.

Although it's his first time hosting the Golden Globes, Fallon hosted the Emmys in 2010 — and these clips from the ceremony are proof that it would be a shame to miss a second of Fallon's time onstage.

The Opening Skit

I'll never tire of seeing Fallon and Tina Fey together on the small screen — I still miss the days when the pair co-anchored "Weekend Update" on Saturday Night Live. Not only is this skit the perfect opener, but it gives me hope that Fallon and Fey will perform a hilarious bit together at the 2017 Golden Globes.

When He Serenaded The Audience

I'm already crossing my fingers that Fallon brought his six-string to Hollywood, because this deliberately awkward musical performance was on point — and it got even better when the amazing Amy Poehler joined in at the end.

But Wait — His Musical Skits Get Even Better

If Fallon's Emmys gig is any indication, we're probably in for at least one hilarious musical number — and, if it comes during the monologue, it would be a crying shame to miss it.

He Might Bring Puppies

OK, OK — I'll admit this one is a long-shot. But, golden retriever puppies make very frequent appearances on The Tonight Show. And, not to read too much into his comments, but Fallon said that a lot of his Golden Globes jokes and skits will be similar to the vibe of his own show. Will he bring a puppy onstage for his monologue? Anything's possible.

If you're as excited as I am to see Fallon host the Golden Globes for the first time, you won't want to miss a second of his monologue. And, not to belabor the point, but there might be puppies onstage — so I highly recommend erring on the side of caution and tuning in right at 8 p.m.
