Emma Glassman-Hughes

Emma Glassman-Hughes (she/her) is a freelance culture writer whose reporting tends to cover sexuality, climate, food systems, and social justice. She’s a regular contributor to Elite Daily and Bustle, and she writes a column about sex and relationships news for InsideHook.

Emma first began writing about culture at 19 as the inaugural content editor for THINX, where she spearheaded the popular "This Week In Feminism" newsletter. She later took a job as print editor for Here Magazine, a social change-oriented travel outlet that introduced readers to new destinations through a local lens. Currently, Emma works part-time as a digital producer for the Boston Globe and holds a master’s degree in journalism from Boston University and a bachelor’s in global and postcolonial studies from the Emerson College honors program. Emma has reported from over 12 countries, covering subjects as varied as beekeepers in Western Uganda and strippers in Portland, Oregon. Her reporting has been featured in the Boston Globe’s Sunday magazine, Cosmopolitan, Bon Appétit, Punch, and elsewhere.

It’s easiest to engage Emma in long conversations about decolonizing our foodways, learning to surf, Cher’s iconic performance in the 1987 film "Moonstruck,” and the pitfalls of compulsory monogamy, though she’s adept at chitchat on a range of other topics, too. She's sometimes on Twitter at @eglassmanhughes but her website is way more fun.
