Many bags can have their 15 minutes of fame, but only a select few enjoy longevity — and the Chloé Paddington is one of them. The It Bag started collecting its first set of celeb followers in the 2000s and continues to hold the same allure more than two decades later. How does she do it?

The Chloé Paddington’s Long History

The Paddington was first introduced in 2005 by Chloé’s then creative director Phoebe Philo, and famous fans of the label’s free-spirited aesthetic were immediately on board. Icons like Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, and Jennifer Lopez touted the slouchy, elongated accessory and its now-signature padlock.

Like many popular ’00s designs, it was discontinued for a hot minute... until Chemena Kamali took over Chloé. The fashion designer had previously worked for the label under two different creative leads (Philo and Gabriela Hearst) before returning to helm the brand in 2023 and debuting her first collection shortly after. Her appointment single-handedly revived the fashion industry’s penchant for whimsy and romance amid the quiet luxury boom.

It wasn’t until Chloé’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection at Paris Fashion Week that Kamali reintroduced the Paddington, fittingly on the arms of models like 2000s icon Alexa Chung.

Though the bag’s iconic design elements remained unchanged (e.g., the padlock and slouchy, lived-in feel), the new version is more user-friendly. It features lighter hardware, a new single-zip opening, and adjustable shoulder straps for effortless wear.

It Has An A-List Fan Base

The bag instantly climbed to must-have status (again), even prior to its official launch. Daisy Edgar-Jones, for instance, was spotted carrying a deep blue iteration in April 2025, months before the Paddington was available to the public.

Katie Holmes also had early access to the bag and was spotted carrying it multiple times on the set of her dramedy trilogy Happy Hours.

When the bag finally launched in September 2025, it was accompanied by a star-studded campaign that included Kendall Jenner, White Lotus’s Aimee Lou Wood, and singer Anna from the K-pop group Meovv.

It has since become a fave of a new generation of style stars, including Doechii, Amelia Gray, and Tate McRae.

For those who have the Paddington at the top of their wish list (read: every fashion girl), there are quite a few options to choose from. The bag comes in two sizes (a small for $2,450 and a medium for $2,750) and in a wide range of colorways, including neutrals and more vivid hues.

It’s also reimagined as a smaller shoulder bag ($2,450). Called the Paddington Chain, it features the same padlock and key, but with a chain-and-leather strap and detachable crossbody option.

She’s always been that girl — and now you know why.
