What Are The 1D Guys Doing During Their Hiatus?

by Tobi Gbile

The One Direction hiatus may be near, but don't take it as bad news: Just because the boys will be taking a break from One Direction, that doesn't mean they'll be disappearing entirely. In fact, from the looks of things, they'll be staying busy, and have tons of plans. Their Perfect EP might have just come out, and their fifth studio album, Made in the A.M. might be dropping in a mere matter of weeks — but that hasn't stopped them from planning for the future. In fact, Louis Tomlinson and infamous mentor Simon Cowell reportedly have some big plans of their own.

During a recent interview for the X Factor UK on the band's YouTube channel, Tomlinson let viewers know about his hiatus plans: He's already set to be the guest judge at the "judges houses" stage with leading man of the show, Simon Cowell. Additionally, as he revealed in his interview, the pair also have bigger plans taking shape, like the formation of a new girl group under the music label that Tomlinson has in the works. While speaking to the interviewers, Tomlinson revealed: "I'm lucky enough to be working with Simon. We've got a few different projects going on at the moment, one of which is we're trying to put a girl band together. It's really exciting to be involved in the different side of it, the background."

With all of these exciting things in store for 1D's oldest member, I have to wonder what the other boys will be up to during their extended break. While Tomlinson has been the most vocal about his choices, the others have been a bit more vague about their plans. Here's a roundup of what the other boys have mentioned that they will be up to in 2016:

Everyone loves keeping up with the boy wonder that is Harry Styles, but he isn't making it particularly easy for us. He is the only member of the band that has not spoken directly about his hiatus plans, but sources have been saying that Styles might take a ride on the acting side during 1D's break. In fact, back in August, a source told E! News, "Harry is being offered acting stuff, but he hasn't accepted anything yet," and that "he is not openly looking for stuff either, but is open to offers."

Even if we don't have new music from One Direction for a little while, Liam Payne will help keep its music alive. It's been said by numerous sources that Payne and Tomlinson plan on teaming up to write music for other artists. The pair wrote numerous tracks on their two latest albums, Midnight Memories and Four, showing that they are not only talented singers, but also songwriters. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tomlinson mentioned, in regards to writing, “I enjoy that, with Liam. But it’s all kind of up in the air at the moment. We definitely will. I’m sure we will.”

Niall Horan

Oh, bless him. Everyone's favorite blonde-haired, blue-eyed Irishman has some serious R&R in order for his time durnig the One Direction hiatus. The "Perfect" singer isn't in a hurry to get back to work, and plans on getting some much needed rest and traveling in. On the radio show "2FM," Horan revealed that "it'll be the simple things like going home a bit more, seeing everyone I hadn't seen in a while. I'd like to do a bit of traveling, the places I haven't seen properly. I'd love to rent a cottage somewhere in Ireland, or get a caravan."

Please don't forget that hiatus does not mean forever. The world's biggest boy band will be back some time down the road, so no need to fear. Thankfully, the boys of 1D all seem to have plans for their break, so hopefully, we will be seeing them around sooner or later!
