No style surprise here! Rapper and fashion designer Kanye West has been named GQ 's Most Stylish Man because of course he is. No one dresses better than Yeezy! Well, blonde model Lucky Blue Smith is also an equally dapper and striking dresser and was actually Yeezy's main competition in this contest, which started out with 64 men, including Jared Leto, Daniel Craig, and David Beckham, and was narrowed down to two based on fan voting. Yeezy, who is 38 to Smith's 17, ultimately prevailed and took the Most Stylish Man crown. That makes him a repeat winner.
West, who is celebrating the birth of his second child and first son Saint, is a fashion risk taker and that is precisely why he won this award. He once wore a leather kilt for a charity performance. He was the first champion of leather sweatpants. He doesn't nix fur. He isn't afraid to wear things others might not consider traditionally high end or stylish, putting his own spin on them at the street chic level.
West always looks incredibly pulled together and is the epitome of ahead-of-the-curve, urban street style mixed with fashion-y "oomph." There's no denying his unique eye for style and his thrilling fashion evolution. He can also be credited with shepherding his wife Kim Kardashian's transition into a fashion icon.
Also, his Yeezy Season 1 and 2 collections have been lauded and worn by style influencers like his sister-in-law Kylie Jenner. Oh, and tell me, have you been able to get your hands (or feet) on a pair of Yeezy Boost 350s or the all-black Yeezy Boost 750s, all by Adidas? No! That's because the kicks are selling out everywhere.
All of these reasons affirm why West nabbed this fashion honor. Congrats, Yeezus. And sorry, LBS. There's always next year and I'm certain you'll still be looking good, kid. You just can't mess with Yeezy.
While West's design work can be polarizing, it's also much-discussed and has quickly achieved a cult status, which means he is doing everything right. What's that saying? If everyone loves what you're doing, you must be doing something wrong! That adage certainly applies in fashion.
Let's peep some of West's fashion highs, which indicate how much of a risk taker he is with his personal style, as well. His risk-taking as a designer is already apparent.
That aforementioned leather kilt, which he wore over leather pants, was a game changer, since it's not every day you see a rapper in a skirt. But as I said, West takes risks. Leather on leather is... a lot of leather. But add the fact that it is a leather skirt and you've got a fashionable man doing as he wishes.
He knows his way around a tux.
He rocks leather pants like a rocker!
Even Yeezy gets the blues.
Here, the multi-hyphenate is totally in sync in camel and black with his wife. But they didn't look like they were twinning in a cheesy way. This is flawlessly executed.
He is also dapper in all black, a go-to hue for him.
The Canadian tux is hard to pull off. Just ask Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake! But 'Ye's denim-on-denim ensemble is so on point. Even when paired with work boots, this looks crisp and well-edited.
He even does fur... which isn't a look everyone or anyone can pull off.
Shredded jeans are so street. If anyone gets street style, it's Yeezy.
Hoodies are comfort clothes — the mac and cheese of fashion. But there gourmet version of that dish, depending on which type of cheese is used. In West's world, the same concept applies. His hoodies are high end.
Also, his wife, despite her fame, never got a Met Gala invite until she and West got together, so there's that. His respect and influence in the fashion world are on the level.
Congrats again, Yeezy!
