When Will Taylor's "New Romantics" Video Be Out?

by Alexis Rhiannon

Clear the cobwebs out of your brain, everybody, because I'm about to use some cold hard math to tell you when Taylor Swift's "New Romantics" music video will be out. As I'm sure we all know as devoted followers of our queen on Twitter, Swift announced on Feb. 19 that "New Romantics" will be her next single off of 1989, which set every nerve in my body a-jangling, because that also means she'll probably be releasing a video for it. Yessssss, please and thank you. "New Romantics" is the final track on the deluxe edition of the album, released exclusively to Target, and it's rumored to be about Swift's best friendship with Selena Gomez. So seriously, what's not to love?

It's also her seventh single off of 1989 — yup, seventh — which means that, even though we don't have a release date yet for the video, we can look at the six singles Swift already dropped to speculate on how long we should be expecting to wait between the announcement and the music video release. (And you thought all that high school math would never come in handy. Ha!) The first single, "Shake It Off," doesn't help us much, because it was released in advance of the album, so the single and the video dropped on the same day, Aug. 18, 2014. But the second single, "Blank Space," was announced on Oct. 30, 2014, with the video dropping Nov. 10, so 12 days later.

Moving into 2015, we have the third single, "Style," which was announced on Jan. 12 and released on Feb. 13, giving it the biggest gap of any 1989 single: 32 days. Then there was single number four, "Bad Blood," announced May 8 and released May 17, for a difference ofnine9 days; "Wildest Dreams," announced Aug. 5 and released Aug. 30, for a difference of 25 days; and "Out Of The Woods," announced Dec. 22 and released Dec. 31, for a difference of nine days.

So what does this tell us? Well, if you take the average of those five time frames, you wind up with 17.4 days as the average length of time between the announcement of the album's next single and the release of its video. So given that "New Romantics" was announced on Feb. 19, 2016, we should have our eyes peeled for the video right around Mar. 7.

Do me a favor and stick to your previous patterns, Taylor Swift. Otherwise, this will have all been for naught.
