Is Sara Harvey's Mother In Plain Sight On 'PLL'?

by Caitlin Flynn

Full disclosure — as a diehard Pretty Little Liars fan, I was pretty disappointed by the "Summer of Answers" reveals that Charlotte was A and the brand-new character Sara Harvey was both Red Coat and Black Widow. But, since one cannot simply walk away from this show, I tuned in for Season 6B hoping that a satisfying explanation would be offered. The major reveal that Mary Drake is Jessica DiLaurentis' evil twin is arguably my favorite "wow" moment of the entire series — and it was executed in the best, creepiest way possible, complete with some truly terrifying masks. Of course, though, whenever I. Marlene King answers one question, countless new ones crop up in its place — and one of my burning questions is if Mary Drake is Sara Harvey's mother on Pretty Little Liars?

Charlotte told Ali that she "hired" Sara to be her helper — and that's something that never sounded especially realistic to me. (I mean, is that the sort of position one posts in the local newspaper's "help wanted" section?) Meanwhile, Sara has maintained she was kidnapped by Charlotte and carried out her orders under duress. Again, this story doesn't exactly add up because Sara went missing long before Charlotte took over the A game from Mona, and it's never been explained what she was doing during that time. With the revelation that Mary is Charlotte's mother, I think that mother and daughter were working together all along and Mary is the true mastermind behind the Dollhouse. In the case, maybe she recruited not one but two of her biological daughters to work with her.

So, where does Shower Harvey fit in? When Sara visited Ali at Rosewood High, she described Charlotte as being "like a sister" to her — but maybe she said this as a clue that the two are actually sisters. And, when Emily met with Sara's friends in Season 4, she was described in a manner that made clear she was "the Ali" of her friend group — perhaps their similarities are because they're cousins. If, like Charlotte, Sara was born while Mary was a patient at Radley, she may have been adopted by a different family and felt bitter towards Ali for leading such a charmed life. (Well, until that unfortunate rock attack that forced her to go on the run for years.)

We know that Sara is most definitely up to something because she refuses to leave Rosewood, and it's looking more and more likely that the Liars are correct in their assumption that she's A.D. If so, it's not far-fetched to assume that she's working closely with Mary and Dr. Rollins — and her motivations may be family-related.

Then there's this clue from Season 4 — in a dream sequence, Ali saw her mother dressed in a black veil. Well, we assumed it was Jessica at the time, but in hindsight it appears that this dream was foreshadowing that Mary Drake is part of the A game. Let's not forget I. Marlene King's 2013 tweet teasing that "the lady in black" is endgame.

I don't know about you, but I see a family resemblance here:

I think the A game has been a family affair for a long time now, and Sara is hanging around Rosewood to be close to her mother as they work together to avenge Charlotte's death. Seriously, could the DiLaurentis/Drake family tree BE any more complicated?
