Is A Spice Girls Reunion About To Actually Happen?
Get excited, Spice Girls fans, because the dream you’ve been wishing for off and on for the past 20 years could finally be coming true. In honor of the 20th anniversary of their U.K. debut, the Spice Girls hinted a major reunion could be coming our way very soon. Well, sort of. In the YouTube video that was posted on their new site, Melanie Brown, Geri Halliwell, and Emma Bunton, the three former Spice Girls, celebrated big anniversary in style. Sitting in a bed with their pajamas on, the three Spice Girls said they wanted to commemorate the big day with all of their fans. Smells like a reunion could be coming our way soon. But, if there is a Spice Girls reunion, will Victoria Beckham join her former bandmates?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it isn’t looking likely. The new video stars only three of the Spice Girls, who have dubbed themselves GEM in honor of their three names. And as adorable as this new moniker is, I’m honestly not sure how you could fit a V into it without causing some serious pronunciation problems. The fact that the trio launched a new website with the same name suggests that it might just be the three of them for whatever they have planned — reunion or not.
But don’t fret, Posh fans, because it’s still technically possible that Victoria Beckham would join Scary, Baby, Sporty, and Ginger Spice for a reunion in the future. After all, the video, which features the trio in party hats and declaring that, when they celebrate the anniversary, we’re all invited, doesn’t say that the two missing members won’t be apart of whatever they're planning. Of course it’s strongly implied with the whole name change thing, but I’m going to blindly hold onto hope, because anything is possible, really.
But don’t despair, Spice Girls fans. That still means that a Spice Girls reunion could be coming our way — even if it doesn’t involve all five of the original group members, a majority of our favorite U.K. girls will be involved in this teased reunion.
And, besides, any excuse to scream-sign “Wannabe” at the top of my lungs is totally worth it in my mind. With or without Posh Spice.
