If you’re a Hollywood maternity style-lover like myself, you may have had a minor freak out or panic attack this week when not one, but two major stars gave birth to their tiny bundles of joy (Drew Barrymore on Tuesday and Olivia Wilde just Wednesday). And with first-time mom and Scandal star Kerry Washington’s due date quickly approaching, the situation only becomes more alarming. After all, I find myself thinking, who will fill these ladies’ fabulous red-carpet maternity style shoes now that they’re no longer pregnant?
But then I remember that everything is going to be just fine, because there’s a whole new crop of stars — Mila Kunis, Scarlett Johansson, and Stacy Keibler, just to name a few — who will be there to satisfy my craving for amazing, baby bump–bearing red carpet styles. And, as of last night, there’s another newly pregnant Hollywood star joining the maternity fashion club: Lake Bell.
The actress — who’s starring alongside Mad Men actor Jon Hamm in the upcoming feel-good Disney flick Million Dollar Arm — attended a Tribeca Film Festival dinner hosted by Vanity Fair in a lovely crimson, cropped Stella McCartney jumpsuit that draped casually and perfectly over her growing baby bump.
The ensemble — which featured fringe detailing, a nude side panel, and was the ideal complement to her nude Louboutin heels — was the first official sign of the brunette beauty’s pregnancy. In fact, she hid the news unbelievably well earlier this week when she attended the festival’s Women in Film brunch wearing a floral-appliqué, two-piece number from Chloé, which she paired with a structured, bright-red overcoat that hid any evidence of a baby on board.
Though she was certainly most attention grabbing, Bell wasn’t the only big name at the Vanity Fair event Wednesday night. Actress America Ferrera made an appearance, too, looking like a downright bombshell in her figure-flattering and cleavage-enhancing LBD, which she styled with tousled hair, a croc-embossed clutch, and lace, cap-toe heels.
Actress Kate Walsh also attended the dinner in an all-black ensemble, looking casually refined in her full-length number whose sheer, lace paneling revealed just a peek of sexy skin.
As great as both Ferrera and Walsh looked, you'll have to forgive me if Bell's ensemble is the only one that sticks in my mind from this event — especially because I'll remember it as the exact moment she threw her hat into the "2014 best-dressed maternity style star" ring.
