More Exciting News for Kelly Rowland!

by Rachel Semigran

After getting married this past weekend in Costa Rica to Tim Witherspoon, Kelly Rowland is on a roll with the good news: it’s just been announced that the pop star will be featured on Pepsi’s World Cup visual album Beats of the Beautiful Game. The album will be released on June 10 and features brand-new anthems and short films written and performed by the likes of Rowland, Janelle Monae, Rita Ora, and Idris Elba. Rowland’s new single “The Game” will be part of the release.

According to Rowland, “What I love about this is how creative it is. It’s a project with a whole bunch of different artists being able to do different songs. I’m excited about being a part of something like this.”

The 2014 FIFA World Cup will take place in Brazil this year and kicks off on June 12 for what will be the biggest international sporting event since the Olympics. Considering The World Cup already has such major stars attached to promote it, we have a sneaking suspicion that Brazil is going to out-do Russia 11-fold.

Beats of the Beautiful Game isn’t the first time Pepsi has courted a member of Destiny’s Child. In 2013 Queen Bey was sponsored by Pepsi and the company produced a number of ads as well as that little ‘ol Super Bowl Halftime Show to end all Halftime shows. And again, alas, poor Michelle is left out. Oh Pepsi, you too eh?

In any case, Rowland’s attachment to the album is just one of the many reasons we can’t wait for June 12. Fútbol!
