Even This Star Has a Classic Style Side

by Mary Avant

Here’s your impossible-to-answer question for the day: When will Shailene Woodley stop getting (and looking) better and better? Seriously, the in-demand actress seems to get cooler by the minute, and it’s not just because she’s starring in some of the biggest movies of the year (including novels-turned-films Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars ). With her refreshing candidness, penchant for going barefoot on the red carpet, and hippie-leaning habits and lifestyle, Woodley is an endearing (and entertaining) young woman in a Hollywood world full of by-the-books stars. (After all, who couldn’t love a girl who admitted to sunbathing her vagina, eating clay, and unashamedly couch-surfing for a two months?)

And it’s not just her carefree, anything-goes spirit that makes us all fall head over heels for the up-and-coming actress; her eclectic, sometimes-edgy style deserves to be recognized, loved, and applauded, too. Whether she’s rocking an embellished boho-chic gown to a Divergent premiere or stepping out in a badass, borrowed-from-the-boys suit at CinemaCon, Woodley is one actress who knows who she is and what she likes, and she has no problem sticking to her fashion sense no matter what the critics may say.

But would you doubt me if I told you that the stunning, fun-loving star could look downright amazing in a style that’s far from free-spirited and bohemian? Well believe it, because that’s exactly what she did at Monday night’s New York City premiere of The Fault in Our Stars.

Ruling the red carpet at the film’s premiere, Woodley looked more sophisticated, elegant, and colorful than ever before in a minimalist, sunshine-yellow Ralph Lauren Collection column gown. With its bright hue, floor-sweeping fit, and waist-defining peplum, the star was practically glowing in the gorgeous gown — which she complemented with a sleek pixie, berry lips, and a simple pendant necklace.

Not only was the gown a notable departure from many of the boho looks she’s sported in the past, but it was also a far cry from the super-casual and eclectically printed looks she’s been wearing on TFIOS promo tour to this point, which have included a boldly patterned Preen dress (above) and an edgy leather-pants-and-graphic-blazer combo.

And while there are few things I love more than seeing the laid-back but chic side of Woodley’s style, it’s always fun to see such a consistent celeb surprise us with something totally unexpected (and insanely refined, at that), proving that there truly is no fault in this star.
