Everything We Know About Beyoncé's VMA Performance

by Christine DiStasio

It's that magical time of year again, when the MTV Video Music Awards try to erase the terror of the previous year's telecast by getting bigger, better, and undoubtably more vulgar. Well, it seems in the case of the 2014 VMAs, viewers are just going to get the bigger and better part. Beyoncé will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and put on what's promised to be a "once in a lifetime" performance on Aug. 24. And with all of those Jay Z divorce rumors and her upcoming On The Run HBO special, Beyoncé might actually be bigger than the VMAs themselves this year. So, naturally, members of the Beyhive and mere mortals like myself are all scrambling for details about her performance.

It's not like this will be her first televised performance in years, (Bey and Jay were on it at the 2014 Grammy's with their "Drunk in Love" performance) but it's her first VMA performance since "Love on Top" in 2011. In case you forgot, that was the fateful moment where Beyoncé sent out the greatest pregnancy announcement of all time. So, with the bar set that high and a history of revealing personal details at the VMAs we're all wondering one thing: Will Beyoncé address those divorce and cheating rumors on Aug. 24?

If the rumors are true — absolutely. Here's everything we know for sure about what's sure to be a memorable Beyoncé stage moment at the 2014 VMAs:

It's A "Once In A Lifetime" Performance

Whatever that means? Isn't every time Beyoncé performs a once in a lifetime performance? She's also performed at the VMAs multiple times before this year's show, so this isn't the first time Queen Bey's graced the VMAs with her presence. What's so "once in a lifetime" about it — maybe one of these two other things we know.

She'll Address Those Divorce Rumors

Aside from a few strategically placed Instagram posts on her part, Beyoncé and Jay Z have remained mum about the rumors about their impending divorce. But that can't last for ever — according to a recent HollywoodLife report, Beyoncé will address the divorce rumors at the VMAs. And, even though it's yet another rumor, I absolutely believe it. Bey set a precedent for herself when she announced her pregnancy at the 2011 VMAs, so why would she not take this opportunity to "silence the haters," like HollywoodLife's source said? It could be as nuanced as her song choice and leave us with infinitely more questions or she could just put it all out there like she did with her pregnancy. Either way, history's on the fans' side in this assumption.

She Might Reunite With Destiny's Child

Wouldn't this just be amazing? The last time this trio reunited, they blacked out the Superbowl. Again, the fans have got history on their side with this one. At the 2013 VMAs, Justin Timberlake received the Vanguard Award and promptly reunited with his N*Sync bandmates, probably because his boy band was what started it all. Now, we all know that Beyoncé has a good relationship with her former fellow girl-groupers — so, here's a theory we can get behind: Beyoncé will reunite with Destiny's Child to pay tribute to the girl group that started her career. It's only right and it's also really important that we get to hear "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Survivor" live again.

It'll Be Amazing

I mean, duh.
