Alexa Chung Just Wore the Coolest Dress Ever

by Rosie Narasaki

Look, I'm a huge fan of Alexa Chung's personal style, and I'm a huge fan of Valentino (especially the brand's fun/funky prints), and this monkey dress Alexa Chung wore to a dinner in celebration of Valentino Garavani's new book (Valentino: At the Emperor's Table, which is basically a glimpse into his ultra-luxurious, yacht-filled, fancy table-settinged life) is representative of the best possible intersection of talents. I don't want to overuse hyperbole, especially as just this time last week I was saying the same thing about Suki Waterhouse at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards (that dress was pretty darn rad too), but seriously: Most. Awesome. Dress. Ever.

Did I overuse hyperbole? Nah, it's actually that cool. Because sheer overlays with embroidery are great, but sheer overlays made from delicate netting with embroidery of colorful, swinging monkeys are an entirely different game. The monkeys, which are beautifully rendered in blue with white, yellow, orange and green detailing (they're so colorful that from a distance, they look like plumed parrots), are all interconnected, giving them a slight resemblance to a barrel of monkeys (and I mean that in the best possible way). Let's take a look, starting with a close up, so we can all marvel at the pretty monkeys:

Pretty awesome, right? That's the first dress on my shopping list when it turns out that I'm secretly royalty (shut up, I was just watching The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement on Netflix).
