We Went Inside Alicia's Mind On 'The Good Wife'

by Alex Kritselis

On Sunday night's new episode of The Good Wife, "Mind's Eye," viewers got a glimpse inside Alicia Florrick's head — and what we learned was pretty eye-opening. For example, we now know that Alicia has sexual fantasies about her campaign manager, Johnny Elfman; assistant state's attorney Finn Polmar; and the late Will Gardner. While a good chunk of the installment focused on Alicia's thoughts about her upcoming Editorial Board interview, it also gave us a better idea of where she's at emotionally — specifically in regard to her love life. Does Alicia have feelings for Johnny? What about Finn? How is the loss of Will affecting her? Oh, and is she still in love with Peter??

The answers to those questions are, of course, fairly complicated. Let's talk it out.

Does Alicia have feelings for Johnny? Well, she's definitely drawn to him on some level (remember: she kissed him in a parking garage during Season 6's "Hail Mary"), but I'm not sure it's more than a physical attraction at this point. Well, what about Finn? Even though Alicia's relationship with the Finnster appears to have been put on hold for the time being, we found out that he's still "on her radar," so to speak, which could indicate that there's still interest there. I won't lie... I'm pretty happy about that.

Some Good Wife fans (*cough* me *cough*) were quick to support the idea of Alicia and Finn as a couple, while others argued that it was too soon for Alicia to move on following Will's death. In retrospect, the latter group was probably right. After all, Will is still very much "alive" in Alicia's head (though that doesn't make Finn any less awesome!). However, near the end of "Mind's Eye," Alicia did tell Will "goodbye" (in a daydream, of course), possibly signaling that she's ready to start exploring romantic relationships again. It'll be interesting to see what happens from here.

Finally, the big one: Is Alicia still in love with Peter? I said in November that I thought she was, but now, I'm not so sure. At the very least, "Mind's Eye" showed us that Alicia feels guilty about even thinking about acting on their new marital agreement, which could mean that she still cares about him... but is it love? I guess I just don't know.

Until next week...
