7 Ways Spring Can Save Your Relationship After The World's Most Woeful Winter

Are you and your partner fighting through the cold weather woes? Well, you're not alone. Winter tends to bring out the worst in all of us, and all these miserable freezing temps can put a strain on even the strongest of relationships. Luckily, dating in the spring is a little easier — and if you're in a relationship that's starting to feel stale after months of winter, the warm weather could be exactly what you and your significant other need to feel butterflies all over again.

It seems silly to blame the bad weather for relationship troubles, but the truth is winter can be a tough time for even the happiest of couples. Frosty roads and frigid winds force us to trade restaurant reservations for take-out orders. The sunshine shortage turns boyfriends and girlfriends into bickering zombies. It really isn't a surprise that the most breakups occur in the winter months, is it?

But, just as winter can play a part in ending your relationship, spring can be the season that saves it. In just a few weeks, warm weather will return to our lives and with it, the keys to your relationship's survival. So before you throw in the snow-covered towel, give nature a chance to take its course and pull your relationship back on track. And if everything goes according to plan, you and your partner will be sweating out the summer together.

1. You two will be a hell of a lot happier

You've probably heard this a million times, but it's worth repeating. The lack of vitamin D, combined with crappy weather and constant snowstorms, leads to an increase in depression come wintertime. Not only does this take a toll on your physical and psychological health, but the sudden switch in moods can also affect your relationship. After a few weeks of sunshine, you two should return to your lighthearted, loving selves.

2. You can enjoy new experiences

Did you and your partner spend your winter curled up on the couch? Well as cute as that may sound, becoming creatures of habit only hurts your relationship. Doing the same thing day in and day out puts people in a rut. Come March 21, crawl out of your couple's hibernation, and embark on a series of seasonal dates that are sure to put some spice back in the relationship.

Winter comes with its fair share of stresses, like trekking through six feet of snow, traveling for the holidays, and taxes. Well, in a way. Thanks to Daylight Saving Time, we are gifted with six months of extra sunlight. Take advantage of the longer days, and do something with your significant other that you couldn't do when the sun set at 5 o'clock.

What spring lacks in holidays, it makes up for in long weekends. Use these days off to travel with your partner. The change of scenery can reignite the spark that you two may have lost over the winter.

6. Your sex life will get a little kick

Did you prefer snuggling to sex during the winter? There's a reason for that. Production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that kicks our sex drive into high gear, is lower in the winter. Luckily, as our exposure to sunlight increases, so do our serotonin levels, which means you and your partner will be getting down and dirty in no time.

7. You can figure out what you both really want

Sadly, a new season doesn't always fix a relationship. The truth is you probably knew the relationship was over months ago, but held on because you didn't want to be alone during such a dark and dreary time. Since spring is a season of fresh starts, it makes sense to end things with your partner now before they get worse.
