After months of red carpets, award ceremonies, and all the hardware you can carry, award season finally wrapped up on Sunday night with the 2017 Oscars. Phew. And while I had the time of my life watching everything go down from the sidelines this year, I can't help but notice that I was never invited to a single award show. Maybe you had the same experience. And since I don't want us to just sit and stew in that negativity, I found a way for us to live vicariously through the A-Listers who were invited to these events: behind-the-scenes photos from the 2017 Oscars.
They probably won't completely cure your jealousy at not getting to rub elbows with the best and the brightest or to see that incredible mix-up go down live and feel the energy in the room as everyone realized that it was Moonlight and not La La Land that had won for Best Picture But they'll at least help you tamp down your FOMO, now that you have to be back at work and acting like an adult and everything. Tell your boss that it's for your own good and get to perusing these delightful snaps taken backstage or in quiet little unseen moments between celebrities.
1. Warren Beatty Coming Offstage
That is not the face of a happy camper.
2. The Moonlight Cast Finding Out They Actually Won For Best Picture
I love that you can see each everyone's unguarded reaction to the news that a mistake had been made and that it was coming out in their favor.
3. Two Former Mouseketeers Catching Up
You know, just chatting it up with a friend from your childhood, like you do. (Can't decide which of them I'm more jealous of — Justin Timberlake or Ryan Gosling.)
4. Dev Patel's Incredibly Excited Mom
Just when I thought I couldn't love Dev Patel more, he brought his mom as his date to the Oscars and she was just. So. Excited.
5. Dev Patel's Incredibly Adorable Co-Star
Immediately broke my own record for how much I could love Dev Patel with this photo of him being the absolute cutest thing ever with his Lion costar Sunny Pawar.
6. Members Of The Moonlight Cast Leaving The Stage
The insanity of this night is palpable, and Ashton Sanders is feeling it hard as he follows André Holland offstage.
7. Jimmy Kimmel Getting Up To No Good
My apologies to Matt Damon; we ran out of time... to print out a new photo of you after Jimmy Kimmel graffiti-ed on the old one.
8. Janelle Monáe Deep In Conversation
Hello, yes, is this the bank? I'd like to withdraw all my funds and give them to Janelle Monae as a goodwill gesture, so that one day she might excitedly grab my hand and delve into conversation with me this way.
9. Jennifer Aniston And Justin Theroux Sharing A Moment
This is the cutest thing ever, and if the sign just beyond them didn't say "Quiet Please," I'd be screaming that from the rooftops right now.
10. More Of Dev Patel's Mom Being The Belle Of The Ball
Just look at how excited Mahershala Ali is to meet her. I can't.
11. Taraji P. Henson Living Her Best Life
It's a Sunday night and you're at the Oscars, queen. This is your real life, breathe it in.
12. Basically Anyone From Moonlight Leaving The Stage Ever
How am I supposed to get over this, when Moonlight stars Alex R. Hibbert and Jharrel Jerome definitely can't either?
13. Chrissy Teigen At Happy Hour
Insane that anyone's sitting in their seats when there's girl talk to be had and champagne to be sipped.
14. The Hidden Figures Cast With Katherine Johnson
There are more composed photos of real-life Hidden Figure Katherine Johnson with the cast of the critically-acclaimed film, but I'm obsessed with this one because the women are so engaged with her.
15. Amy Adams And Ben Affleck Running Into Each Other
Celebs, they're just like us! (They totally didn't realize you were gonna be at this party.)
16. Lin-Manuel Miranda And His Mom Holding Hands
I'm crying.
17. Nicole Kidman Making A Quick Phone Call
Would love to know who's on the other line, and also what Olivia Spencer will be captioning the photo she's pretty clearly snapping of Nicole Kidman right now.
18. Hailee Steinfeld Getting Those Finishing Touches
Steinfeld is on her way onstage to present, and this feels like one of those perfect moments of action that you dream about capturing, with a flurry of activity around her and perfect calm and excitement in the center.
19. Taraji P. Henson Being All Of Us
Show me the person who doesn't start scheming for a cookie the moment they see their friend with one, and I'll show you a liar.
Even though I just watched it from my couch and then used the magic of the internet to catch up with everything that went on behind-the-scenes after the fact, I wouldn't have missed this for the world.
