Spring is here, and that means one of the most anticipated events of the season — the Met Gala. Considering she's one of the biggest stars on the planet, Beyonce's Met Gala looks are eagerly anticipated by fashion editors and the Beyhive alike. Since her first appearance at the 2008 Met Gala, Beyonce has made headlines for her show stopping and dramatic gowns from each subsequent Met Gala. Starting with her simple pale pink strapless dress at her first Met Gala in 2008 and ending with her most recent look, a gorgeous latex dress from 2016, Beyonce is one of my favorite stars to make an appearance on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum's annual bash.
Considering Beyonce is pregnant with twins with husband Jay Z and cancelled an appearance at Coachella because of the pregnancy, I have to admit, I'm a little curious if the singer will make it to the Met Gala this year. Although a red carpet appearance is probably a little less strenuous than an hour-long performance in the desert heat, I completely wouldn't blame Beyonce for sitting out the red carpet this year. Although I hope that she'll make an appearance, here's a look at all of Beyonce's looks over the years to tide us over in case she doesn't.
At her first appearance, the singer wore a pale pink strapless gown with pleated details. It's a little more classic than more recent dresses, and it's surprisingly timeless.
Following a two-year hiatus, the entertainment industry's favorite power couple returned to the Met Gala red carpet. This time, Beyonce wore a more daring black mermaid-style gown with intricate gold embroidery. Husband Jay Z was dapper in a classic white tux.
Beyonce's 2012 look was considerably more daring than her previous looks — the sheer black body con dress was gorgeous with its bright purple feathered hem. She kept her hair and makeup simple to avoid competing with the gown. Even more impressive? The star gave birth to daughter Blue Ivy just a few months prior to her appearance.
Beyonce took it up a notch for the 2013 Met Gala. Her outfit was one of the most impressive on the red carpet that year — from the thigh-high boots to the long black glovers to the seriously impressive train on that gown, the look was perfection.
Beyonce's 2014 look was considerably more pared-down than the previous year. Her beaded black gown was retro perfection with the nipped waist, deep V-neck, voluminous sleeves and adorable birdcage veil. Jay Z once again joined his wife on the red carpet.
The power couple returned to the red carpet together again in 2015, with Beyonce rocking a daring "naked dress" with some seriously substantial crystal beading. Jay Z opted for a classic black tux this time around.
The singer was conspicuously solo in her first post-Lemonade red carpet appearance, the 2016 Met Gala. Her peach latex dress was more covered up than the previous year's but just as glam. Although much was said about the fact that Beyonce made the appearance solo, her 2017 announcement that she was pregnant with twins with husband Jay Z put to rest any rumors that the couple was on the way to divorce. Now one question remains: Will Beyonce be on the red carpet in 2017? Only time will tell.
