Your inner '00s kid is about to freak out. On Instagram, Avril Lavigne revealed her new album is coming soon. While the pop punk queen didn't offer a specific release date, just knowing that her sixth studio album is on the way is enough to have her fans pumped. The "Sk8er Boi" singer provided the anthems for your Hot Topic-shopping, angst-filled youth, and now she's ready to speak to your adult soul too.

If you're wondering where she disappeared to, the singer has been on hiatus for a good reason. Back in 2015, Lavigne was diagnosed with Lyme disease, and she took time off to focus on her recovery. Now that she's feeling better, Lavigne is back in the studio working on new songs and sharing lots of updates with her fans on social media.

Even though it's clear she's been cooking up a new project for some time, having Lavigne officially confirm that fresh music is on the way is news worth celebrating. In fact, you should break out that tie and t-shirt combo that's still hanging in the back of your closet and listen to "Complicated" on repeat to commerate this moment. While it's true that the old school Lavigne definitely speaks to a specific era — she was the early '00s — that's only going to make seeing what kind of persona she channels now all the more interesting.

Like many of her fans, Lavigne is an adult now, and she's one who has dealt with some tough times, including going through a divorce. Her new music may or may not have the riot girl aesthetic of her classics, but no matter what sound she goes with, the upcoming songs have the potential to be even richer thanks to Lavigne's life experiences. Sadly, many of the musicians you loved in your youth either retire or stick with playing the same old hits over and over again. That's why it's so exciting to see Lavigne taking a different path.

Even though it could be some time before the official album release date is revealed, just knowing everyone's favorite sk8er girl is about to return to the music scene is reason enough to get excited.
