Bustle's Editors On Birth Control + AIM

by Rachel Simon

Happy Friday, y'all! It's been one hell of a long week due to some awful current events, so the weekend couldn't feel more necessary. Of course, as today's announcement by Trump administration on birth control makes clear (more on that soon), just because it's the end of the week doesn't mean we're in the clear for more serious news to come — but hey, here's hoping.

Read on for a recap on everything that had Bustle's editors talking today, Oct. 6:

Trump + Birth Control

In upsetting news, Trump has overhauled the Obamacare birth control mandate, which required companies to give employees birth control coverage in their health insurance plans without co-payments. Trump's new regulations — which begin taking effect now — say that employers can deny this coverage due to moral or religious reasons. Obviously, countless people are outraged by this change, and the ACLU is already planning to sue.

How To Protest: If you're vehemently opposed to this new policy, here's how to voice your thoughts and stand up for reproductive rights.

AIM + A Final Goodbye

If you grew up in the '90s or '00s, prepare yourself: AOL Instant Messenger, aka AIM, is shutting down. The service will officially end on Dec. 15, 2017, but that hasn't stopped plenty of nostalgic people from sharing their adorably awkward memories of using AIM back in the day. May song lyric-filled away messages and usernames like SportzGurl93 rest in peace.

OMG: The trailer for the Hey Arnold movie is here, and you're gonna freak out watching it.

CoverGirl + New Ambassadors

CoverGirl has long been known for being one of the most progressive beauty brands, and its newest ambassadors prove that it's continuing to highlight and celebrate diversity. Shelina Moreda, a pro motorcycle racer, and Massy Arias, a personal trainer, are CoverGirl's latest picks, and the fierce, powerful ladies couldn't be better choices.

New Emoji + Your Phone

Heads up, iPhone users — Apple just announced that there are new emoji coming on the iOS 11.1 update, and they're pretty good picks. The 30 (!) new emoji include an adorable hedgehog, a rock climber, a mermaid, a Chinese take-out box and, coolest of all, several gender-neutral faces, in different ages and races. Nice job, Apple.

LOL: You have to hear Neil DeGrasse Tyson's amazing thoughts on Jack dying in Titanic.

Today's WTF Moment: Nostril hair extensions are a thing, and they're... a lot.

What to Watch: Head to the theaters to check out the new Blade Runner 2049, the highly-anticipated followup to the sci-fi classic.
