7 Powerful Blow Dryers That Quickly Dry Thick Hair

by Sam Escobar

Every time I would head to the salon as a kid, the stylist would run their fingers through my hair and exclaim, "It's so thick!" Though I knew they were saying it as a compliment, I couldn't help but get frustrated with my big mane — it was so hard to air dry, and I hated how long blow drying took. Luckily, I discovered the best blow dryers for thick hair, the perfect tools for quickly and easily getting all those tresses dry and frizz-free, whether I want to wear my hair wavy, curled, or straight.

Don't get me wrong — thick hair definitely has it advantages. I have spent 13 years coloring my hair all sorts of shades, including a few times where I DIY'd it and was left with a whole lot of breakage, so having thick and dense strands disguised my mistakes. Still, even when it's at its healthiest, my hair can be very tedious to style in the morning. I only fully wash my hair once per week, a choice that I attribute to the fact that my strands are very dry (thanks, bleach!) and don't get greasy very easily. Of course, it's also because I'm super lazy about blow drying my hair so it looks smooth and not terribly dehydrated.

Finding the right blow dryer can make styling your hair infinitely easier, particularly if you have a trickier hair type to work with. Fortunately for us thick-haired folks, the following seriously powerful hair dryers are the perfect tool to let us get the perfect at-home blowout.

And customers are not disappointed: on top of having a nearly five-star rating on Sephora, reviewers are raving about it.

"I have very curly thick hair, which if nothing is done to it, gets very messy by the third day after washing," one customer explains. "I used to wash and then air dry and straighten which would leave my hair very flat but I recently just discovered this blow dryer and it gives me the same effect as straightening but with more volume and bounce! And better yet, it gets the job done in half the time!"

Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer

When Dyson's revolutionary blow dryer first debuted on the market in 2016, it had everyone talking. Not only does it look totally different than conventional hair dryers, it's also won numerous awards for its ability to blow hair approximately six times faster comparatively. It also promises to cut down on damage from heat styling — a common fear among those of us who use dryers, flat irons, and curling wands on a regular basis.

"I have very thick, coarse, color-treated hair that usually takes me 30-45 minutes to dry and style — which is why I don't do it often," one Sephora reviewer says. "However, since I have gotten this dryer, it only takes 10 minutes flat." And on top of all that, this was one of our editors' favorite products of the year!"
