Your astrological sign can influence some major aspects of your life, like your biggest challenges and who you end up with romantically (under some philosophies, at least). But it can also influence smaller things — like your adorable quirks. There's something lovable about each astrological sign, astrologer Stefanie Weiss of The Saturn Sisters tells Bustle. And every sign's unique traits are worth celebrating.
While there are specific qualities associated with your sun sign, Weiss says the sign opposite yours can actually tells you just as much about yourself. The opposing astrological pairs are Aries/Libra, Taurus/Scorpio, Gemini/Sagittarius, Cancer/Capricorn, Leo/Aquarius, and Virgo/Pisces. The traits your opposite sign possesses are part of your shadow — the part of yourself you try to deny. They may not be outwardly apparent in you, but they do affect your behavior, and acknowledging them can help you feel more whole and complete.
The other caveat to keep in mind is that while sun sign astrology is the kind most typically talked about, you also have a moon sign, a rising sign, and other aspects of your birth chart that influence your personality.
All that said, here are the quirks most typically associated with each sign, according to Weiss — and the reasons people love them.
Aries (March 21 - April 19): The Way They Tear Up The Dance Floor
"When they start dancing, it's almost like a burst of fire," says Weiss. "It can almost be comical because it's out of space and time. ... They don't care at all about what they look like when they dance."
So, you may want to take your Aries lover on a dancing date (though a hot air balloon or elevated restaurant should fit their love of being in the air).
Taurus (April 20 - May 20): Love Of Food
"They can linger over a meal for hours and hours and hours, really getting into every single bite of the food," says Weiss. "You can get annoyed with the Taurus, like 'Dude, lunch started three hours ago.'"
They also might do this with other sensual experiences, like sniffing a flower. Whatever situation they're in, they know how to enjoy life.
Gemini (May 21 - June 20): Excitement About Minutia
Any time a Gemini's phone goes off, they may let out of squeal, even if it's just over a new piece of celebrity gossip or Facebook event. Watch a game show with them, and they'll be jumping out of their seats each time they know the answer.
Cancer (June 21 - July 22): Mama Bear Instinct
Cancers are nurturers by heart. They want to help every dog on the street and every baby on the bus. They may get crabby sometimes, but you can't help but forgive them because they're the nicest people you've ever met.
Leo (July 23 - August 22): Perfectionism With Photos
Nobody gets into Instagram quite like a Leo. They'll obsess over getting the right lighting, angle, and pose, and you won't even fault them for it. After all, you know it's because the memory you're sharing is special to them.
Virgo (August 23 - September 22): Obsession With Planning
If something's not written down on a list, don't expect a Virgo to do it. They may be incapable of spontaneity, but at least they'll never show up anywhere unprepared.
Libra (September 23 - October 22): Diplomacy
Libras empathize with the people who deserve it the least. "They can hold something that is really obviously annoying to everybody else inside of them," says Weiss. "But all of a sudden, when you least expect it, they rage on you, and you almost tolerate it because you're like, 'Oh, my god, she's been holding it in for five years. Give her a break.'"
Scorpio (October 23 - November 21): Sleuthing Abilities
When Scorpios have crushes, they will hunt down every last piece of information about them. You'll be a little scared — but also impressed. In fact, you might ask them to investigate your crush for you.
Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21): Epic Rants
Once you get a Sagittarius started on a topic they're passionate about, you can't get them to stop, says Weiss. Their friends may not always agree with their rants, but they will find them entertaining.
Capricorn (December 22 - January 19): Appreciation Of The Finer Things In Life
"If you travel with your Capricorn friend, you're going to experience the height of luxury," says Weiss. They have an unmatched appreciation for fine wines, silk sheets, and beautiful vistas, and they'll help you enjoy life's finer things as well.
Aquarius (January 20 - February 18): Kinkiness
Many Aquariuses have a sexual kink that comes completely out of left field, and they always bring it up with surprising casualness. "Their kinkiness is completely for them, nothing to hide or be ashamed of," says Weiss. "They'll just talk about it like they're talking about the weather."
Pisces (February 19 - March 20): Vivid Dreams
You'll be talking to a Pisces about something that happened in real life, and a few minutes into the conversation, you'll realize they're actually talking about a dream. "They believe that dreams and waking life are completely merged," says Weiss. This also makes them great dream interpreters.
