The Best Songs To Send Your Crush

by Natalia Lusinski

Dating sites are a huge market, projected to make almost $1.2 billion this year, not to mention dating apps, which will rake in approximately $628.8 million. And, over the past few years dating apps become incredibly niche (there's an app for bacon lovers!) and started to add unique features. A few months ago, Happn (only a year-and-a-half old, with five million members in 20 major cities worldwide) partnered with Spotify and started allowing users to send songs to their matches via the app’s message function. “Music is such a powerful form of expression that is intrinsically linked to our personalities,” said Didier Rappaport, co-founder and CEO of Happn, in a press release announcing the Spotify integration. Plus, they say music increases productivity and creativity, so why not pair it with dating, right?

What is Happn, you ask? It’s an app that uses geo-tracking so you can see who, literally, just passed you by. If you’re both members of the app, you’ll appear in each other’s timelines after the missed encounter, citing when and where you “saw” each other. (It’s almost like Craigslist’s “Missed Connections,” but not online, way more thorough, and way less creepy.) Then, if the like is mutual, you can start messaging.

So, the next natural question that comes to mind is, what songs are people sending? (Any guesses?!) Well, the folks at Happn were kind enough to share them.

The Most Popular Songs Male Users In The U.S. Send:

1. “Hello” — Lionel Richie

Is it me you're looking for?

Looking round the room

I can tell that you

Are the most beautiful girl in the... room. [Well, my Happn app will show me that you were!]

How did you know I needed you so badly? [See above!]

How did you know I'd give my heart gladly? [Well, you had to swipe the heart icon to like me...]

Yesterday I was one of the lonely people [...until we both joined Happn!]

Now you're lying close to me, making love to me...”
