Rob & Blac Chyna Have Known Each Other For Years

by Michelle McGahan

In case you haven't been out-Kardashianed by the many (many) Kardashian/Jenner/West-centric events of the past few days, good news: here's one more. Because in a week that kicked off with the not-so-subtle Instagram photo that meant Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna are dating and peaked at the explosive Twitter feud between Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, and Amber Rose, the only way to improve on the past week is by giving the public exactly what it is what they want: more Kardashians. Namely, some more information on the Rob Kardashian/Blac Chyna front — like how they even met in the first place.

First things first: The reason why the Internet has been collectively screaming about this relationship isn't just because it's random AF — it's because Blac Chyna is Tyga's ex-fiancée and is the mother of their son, 3-year-old King Cairo. And Tyga, of course, is very obviously dating Kylie Jenner, Rob's younger half-sister. Not only does this mean that the half-siblings (Rob and Kylie) are essentially sharing a step-parent role in little King Cairo's life, but it means that each of their significant others are the ex-significant others of each other. And as Us Weekly detailed, Chyna and Tyga haven't exactly had the smoothest relationship post-breakup — and there's been some subtle shade thrown between both Chyna and Kylie, as well. According to People (and perhaps needless to say), Kylie is pretty pissed about the news — which also seems to be the case with Khloé Kardashian, who hasn't exactly been hiding her emotions on social media. The whole thing is kind of a mess, to say the least.

Now that the drama is out of the way, let's get to the beginning of Rob and Chyna's relationship. Though the first hint that they were even a thing came courtesy of Blac Chyna's Instagram on Monday — as well as an Us Weekly source reporting that the pair "have been inseparable for the past 10 days" — it's pretty clear that the two have known each other longer than that. In big part, obviously, because of their family's awkwardly intertwined history together.

In November 2011, Kendall Jenner had a Sweet 16 bash where Tyga performed and hung out with the Kardashian family (including a then-14-year-old Kylie, his future girlfriend). November 2011, according to VH1, also marks the time that Tyga and Blac Chyna began dating, though it's unclear if she attended Kendall's soiree. As fate has a way of intervening, however, Rob and Chyna were photographed occupying the same space two years later at Kendall's 18th birthday — when the model was still with Tyga. The Daily Mail has photos of the two riding on an amusement park ride together at the bash, along with Kim Kardashian. (Lest we forget there was a time that Kim Kardashian and Blac Chyna were besties.)

Since the Daily Mail reports that Kardashian was "introduced to the model several years ago by his own relatives," I think it's safe to say that Kendall's 18th birthday party was the catalyst for a lot to go down later on in Kardashian-Jenner life — at least the super awk ~love square~ between Kylie Jenner, Tyga, Blac Chyna, and Rob Kardashian. Who would've thought?
