10 2016 Hair Trends That '90s Fans Will Love

by Miki Hayes

If you've been waiting for a '90s hair comeback, your wait could be over. Following the return in popularity of flannels and brown lipstick, there are also plenty of hair trends for 2016 that '90s fans will love. And OK, maybe not all of the styles we loved will be on trend again. (It might take a while for butterfly clips to become nostalgic enough to make a successful comeback.) But with the resurgence of boy bands and girl bands, I have faith that crimped strands and scrunchies are somewhere in our not-too-distant futures.

Until that happens though, there are still plenty of styles that would give all the feels to any '90s fan. Seriously, even though there are probably some ways you swore you would never wear your hair again, these trends might make you reconsider. After all, we probably all have soft spots for hair accessories, hair mascaras, and crimping wands. Because once you've dabbled in '90s hair, it's part of you for life. Especially when trends resurface and allow you to relive your best (or redeem your worst) hair days. Here are 10 hair trends for 2016 that any fan of the '90s will love.

Posh Spice vibes, anyone?

2. Statement Parts

A perfectly centered part (or zig-zag part, or severe side-part) are on-trend this year. Pair it with thick, black eyeliner FTW.

3. Hair Accessories

Bedazzled hair is back and on-trend for 2016. So bust out those hair spirals and clip-in stars that you've been hoarding for exactly this moment.

4. Curls

If you have natural curls, embrace them. That texture is just as enviable now as it was in the '90s.

5. Bangs

Bangs are back again. If you want to stay truer to the '90s, keep your fringe either short or feathered.

6. The Half-Up Top Knot

The half-up top knot is pretty major because it melds the mini bun/rave knots thing with the classic, half-up/half-down thing. Gotta love it.

7. Straight Hair

Continuing with the natural hair theme, if you have stick-straight locks, rock it. And sure, throw in a crimp, I won't tell.

8. Puns

So this is a fancy version, but if you've ever gone to do a ponytail but then only pulled your hair halfway through so that you form a loop, you'll have a pun (ponytail + bun). Pretty simple right? Plus that spiky quality of the ends sticking out is so 90s.

9. Headbands

Maybe not the headbands with the built-in clips, or the ones that give your hair that zig-zag effect, but headbands are coming back again, and it's a start.

10. Updos

Seriously, this sort of haphazard updo, plus the face-framing pieces, plus that bit of bang going on is basically a '90s revival dream.

OK, OK, pass me the butterfly clips. Let's do this.
