When Vogue reports that something is a trend, it’s best to sit up and take note. According to Vogue, boudoir and lingerie style is a hot trend for spring/summer 2016. Any fashion follower worth their Jimmy Choos can tell you that the underwear as outerwear trend is nothing new, but this season we’re in for a treat. Instead of the slip dress being the superstar of the show, as is the norm when this trend resurfaces, Vogue reported that many designers have focussed on other silky, pajama inspired separates too.
It appears that celebs are slinking aboard this trendy train too, with Taylor Swift wearing a black shift dress recently in an Apple Music advert and Swift’s pal Gigi Hadid has been spotted in not one, but two notable slip dresses since the dawn of 2016 – a white slip dress on NYE and a grunge styled slip dress at Paris Fashion Week.
With boudoir shoots becoming increasingly popular and the second installation of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie franchise – Fifty Shades Darker – set to be released early next year, it’s really no wonder that lingerie inspired fashion is breaking out from the boudoir.
