Since their show started in 2007, the Kardashian-Jenners have basically become the royal family of reality TV. It's been almost a decade and they're still doing their thing. Just as Keeping Up With The Kardashians was picking up steam, another show was coming to an end: The Hills. Tying into all the recent hype about The Hills' 10-year anniversary, one of the show's stars made a comparison between these two seemingly different shows. In other words, Spencer Pratt compared himself to the Kardashians. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he said,
Because at the time, we were the Kardashians. Speidi had that. We felt that. So, to be, like, right now, unplugging Kim Kardashian, what would happen? So, that happened to us. It was a hard reset. Like, when you hold your iPhone down and you wait until the Apple thing comes back on? That was kind of what we needed to do.
Initially, I scoffed at this analogy and thought Speidi wasn't like the Kardashians at all. What a ridiculous thought, right? But actually, the more I contemplated the idea, I realized they're not all that different. So without further ado, here's a list of similarities between the KUWTK stars with the former Hills villains.
Playing A Role
In the same interview with ET, Pratt talks about how he played a character to boost TV ratings and that he isn't the bad guy he was made out to be. I'm unsure how much I actually believe that, but I guess I'll take his word for it. Meanwhile, Kylie Jenner has talked about how fans don't know the "real Kylie" and that she puts on a persona for TV and social media. If that's true, it's definitely a commonality between Pratt and the Kardashian crew.
Sibling Drama
The drama between Spencer and Stephanie Pratt was quite explosive. I mean, just watch the video above. Meanwhile, the Kardashian and Jenner sisters have gotten into their share of tiffs. Remember what happened when Kendall wanted to borrow Kylie's clothes? She flipped out.
Multiple Spin-Offs
After The Hills ended, Pratt and Heidi Montag have appeared on numerous other reality shows. From Celebrity Big Brother to Marriage Boot Camp , Speidi has stayed in the spotlight. The same can be said for the Kardashians, who have had their own E! spin-offs, whether Kim & Kourtney Take New York or Khloé & Lamar.
Altered Appearances
After much denial, Kylie owned up to getting lip fillers. Meanwhile, Kourt has talked about having her breasts done. Similarly, Montag hasn't been shy about speaking out about her own plastic surgery.
Brody Jenner
This is easily my favorite part of the list. Both KUWTK and The Hills featured Brody Jenner. That's because he's Kylie and Kendall's half-brother. As for The Hills, Brody and Lauren Conrad dated. (Or maybe not, based on what he said after the show.)
Although there are all these commonalities, I do think there are certainly differences between the shows and their stars. To me, Pratt seems straight-up petty. A recent Snapchat video, where he dissed his former Hills co-stars makes me maintain that opinion. He also hasn't built a business empire, in the same way the Kardashian-Jenner crew has.
Admittedly I'm still on the fence about this analogy. But based on the above, there certainly are similarities between Speidi and the Kardashians. Touché, Spencer.
