Bey & Jay Were There For Solange's 'SNL' Debut

by Loretta Donelan

Along with everyone who spent the past month jamming to Solange's A Seat At The Table, the singer's own family is showing their love for her. Beyoncé and Jay Z supported Solange at SNL on Saturday night, showing up in-person to be there for her during her big performance. It was the younger Knowles sister's first appearance on Saturday Night Live, and it looks like she and her family had a super fun time, judging from the hilarious pictures and videos that emerged after the show.

Overall,iIt was a big night for the sketch comedy show, with Benedict Cumberbatch as the host and Kate McKinnon and Alec Baldwin acting in character as presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in the final show before the election. Solange brought the house down with A Seat At The Table favorites "Cranes In The Sky" and "You Can't Touch My Hair," with the latter song's featured artist Sampha making an appearance as well. Solange later tweeted that she "had a great time, even through the imperfections & nervousness!" And, to add to all of this, it turns out Beyoncé and Jay Z were hanging out at 30 Rock the whole time.

Solange, Beyoncé, and Jay Z's relationship seemingly hasn't always been this solid. Back in 2014, leaked video from an elevator showed Solange attacking Jay Z while his wife watched, an incident that many believe to have been linked to Jay Z's alleged infidelity, as explored in Beyonce's visual album Lemonade. Yet their past scuffles just make the closeness of Beyoncé, Solange, and Jay Z shown in recent months even more heartwarming. The two sisters have both enthusiastically supported each other's recent albums, and Beyoncé and Jay Z's enduring relationship has been solidified by their couple's costumes and public appearances together, including a recent appearance in support of Democratic nominee Clinton.

So when it came time for Solange to perform on SNL, Beyonce, Jay Z, and Tina Lawson, Beyoncé and Solange's mother, was all there, as documented in this adorable video posted to Ms. Tina's Instagram with the caption "she's still our baby," despite Solange's protest that she's "30 years old."

Too sweet. SNL cast member Leslie Jones also posted evidence that the most famous couple in the US was at large at SNL, posing with Beyoncé and Jay Z in an Instagram showing the trio apparently at dinner, in addition to a solo pic with Jay.

It looks like a fun time was had by everyone backstage at Saturday Night Live, and I'm sure we've only seen the tip of the iceberg. Did Bill Murray, who appeared in a sketch, hang out with Bey and Jay? Did Alec Baldwin and Jay Z compare notes on what it feels like to be dissed by Trump? We'll probably never know, but oh, I can imagine.
