NPH Should Check These Things Off His Bucket List

Even though Neil Patrick Harris hosting the Oscars was a dream come true, it's apparently a short-lived one. The actor revealed that he doesn't plan to host the Academy Awards ever again — but not because he didn't love doing it. Unfortunately, it was just too much of a "beast" for him to take on, and he has his family to consider, too. "I don’t know that my family nor my soul could take it," he told The Huffington Post. "It was fun to check off the list, but for the amount of time spent and the understandable opinionated response, I don’t know that it's a delightful balance to do every year or even again."

Hosting the Oscars was the last item on NPH's bucket list — or at least the fun one he revealed in his announcement — and now that he doesn't plan on repeating history, I have some ideas for him to tackle next. Below are six potential career and personal moves to tackle next, ranging from another run on Broadway to a reprise of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog to winning his own Oscar. I'll spare the "legendary" jokes, but c'mon — we know his next move is going to be just that.

1. More Dr. Horrible

In Harris' interview with HuffPo, he also said he'd "love to" do more Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. "Everyone’s been champing at the bit to do so. They’ve written songs. They have an outline and stuff ... but we’re all working on other things at the moment, so it’s hard to find the time." Let's move that up on the list, NPH.

2. Another Broadway Run

I know that Harris' time in Hedwig and the Angry Inch only ended in August, but I'm antsy to see him onstage again. Maybe he could do a role that is less grueling — perhaps a comedic play? — instead of a musical. If not that, then perhaps a revisit to the small screen...

3. A Return To Television

We all miss Barney Stintson, but I'd love to see NPH in a role that is entirely different from what he's done before. Maybe a dark Netflix series or a starring role on whatever AMC does after Mad Men ends? We've seen his comedic side with How I Met Your Mother and his creepy antics on American Horror Story recently, but something that's a 180 from either of those would be interesting.

4. A Music Career

Harris can sing, so when is he going to release an album? I don't care what genre it is — I just want it now.

5. Having More Adorable Kids

This is a personal choice and I would never try to impose on Harris' life, but um, his kids are adorable. Harper and Gideon should have more siblings and they can become the Partridge Family or the von Trapps when it comes to a talented, musical groups.

6. Winning His Own Oscar

Maybe Harris should focus on making incredible films so he can accept his own Oscar onstage next year. Whether he wants to do that naked or not is his call.
