Why Did Salley Leave Bachelor In Paradise?

At least her suitcase made a lasting impression.

One of the weirder developments in Season 8 of Bachelor in Paradise has been the journey of Salley Carson. Since her suitcase mysteriously arrived on the beach in Week 2, the cast has been anxiously awaiting her arrival, especially after bartender Wells Adams’ story about Salley’s alleged pre-show antics. Yet, when she finally did arrive on the beach in Week 3, she only stayed for about an hour before deciding to go home, leaving with one of the shortest tenures in Paradise history.

This isn’t the first time Salley has made such a brief appearance. At the start of Clayton Echard’s season of The Bachelor, Salley had recently ended an engagement, and unable to reconcile her feelings about her former fiancé, she left the show before the competition began. That means most of the women in Paradise Season 8 don’t really know Salley, but they are aware of her, though. Genevieve shared that Salley and Justin Glaze may have had a short fling at Bachelor Nation’s favorite music festival, Stagecoach.

With all the anticipation and curiosity in the beach air, Salley made her ultra-short Paradise debut. It quickly became clear that Salley never stood a chance with the rest of the cast. From the moment she arrived, the women were grilling her over the facts they’d learned from Wells’ story. There were accusations about her feelings toward her ex-fiancé and about her intentions for the show.

Genevieve and Shanae led the interrogation, which Salley entertained for a while before growing tired of the questioning. “My gut feeling told me not to come,” she said. “I’m here for me. I’m here for my business.” She continued to bring up that her pre-show conversations with her ex weren’t pertinent to her arrival on the show and that the cast’s questioning of her integrity was laughable. According to Salley, there were other cast members who weren’t on the beach for the right reasons, and it was those people who deserved vitriol, not her. She elected to keep those details to herself, before saying, “This is exactly why I didn’t get on three flights.” Shortly thereafter, Salley asked for her microphone to be removed.

Justin did his best to try and convince Salley to stay, but she had already made up her mind. No one else seemed all that interested in offering Salley any sympathy, and the entire sequence ended with Salley’s suitcase being dragged off the beach, as the rest of the cast cracked jokes. She is now the third self-elimination of the season, following Teddi Wright and Sierra Jackson.
