What Bustle's Editors Are Talking About Today

by Rachel Simon

It's Tues, Nov. 8 — in other words, the day that we've all been waiting for. Election Day is finally here, and chances are, you're filled with a mix of excitement, dread, and simple exhaustion over the fact that the 2016 presidential election has gone on for so long. We still do not know if Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump will be named the next Commander-in-Chief, but in just a few short answers, all will be revealed, and we can all let out a big sigh of relief that it's all finally coming to an end.

So, as you're waiting anxiously to find out the results or standing on line at the polls, take a look at all the things election-related (Trump memes!) and not (Harry Potter!) that Bustle editors have been talking about today.

Women + White Pantsuits

Hillary Clinton fans are showing their love for the candidate in many different ways this Tuesday, but one of the most prominent displays of support is the sheer number of women wearing white (many in pantsuits) as they head to the polls. It's a nod to the all-white outfit that Clinton wore in July when she accepted the presidential nomination, which was interpreted as a tribute to suffragettes. Now, Clinton supporters are echoing that choice, with their white ensembles signifying that they're not only #WithHer, but with a whole era of women making their voices heard.

Celeb Support: Unlike many celebs, Taylor Swift hasn't said who she's voting for this election — until now, that is, if you believe that the sweater she wore in a photo she posted from the polls has a secret, Clinton-supporting meaning. Leave it to Swift to keep things ~mysterious.~

Election Night + Parties

If you're going to spend the entire night in front of your TV, you might as well be surrounded by friends and food. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to plan the best election night party around, featuring everything from a DIY photobooth to a cocktail called the "Hillary Clinton Spicy Martini." Sign me up.

Pro Tip: "Election night is a long one, so you might as well party," says Senior Lifestyle Editor Kathryn Kattalia. "Surround yourself by people you feel comfortable being your most stressed-out self in front of, bring LOTS of snacks, and remember to take pics. Tonight is going to be historic, and you're going to want photographic evidence that you were there to experience it.... even if that evidence is as fleeting as a 24-hour Instagram Story."

Shopping Break: Regardless of if you're happy with the results of the election, you're going to want to celebrate the end of the very long election cycle. Check out some of the coolest items you can buy to help ring in Nov. 9, whether you're spending the day cheerfully partying or taking the day to reflect.

Trivia + Harry Potter

Need a break from the election craze? Check out Bustle's new Harry Potter trivia game — but first, you might want to brush up on your Hogwarts knowledge, because the quiz covers everything from the name of Hermione's cat to the color of Hagrid's famous cake. Superfans, get ready.

Fun Fact: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the newest installment in JK Rowling's wizarding world, features a few fun shout-outs to the Potter books, and while we won't reveal spoilers, we can say to keep an eye out for a particular Quidditch reference early on that fans will love.

Donald Trump + Memes

Leave it to Trump to unintentionally spur hilarity while attempting to be political. From the look he gave his wife Melania as she (presumably) cast her vote for him to the boos he received while showing up at his polling location, Trump has seen many of his actions on Election Day turn into amazing memes. And just think: it's only 5 p.m. The night is young, guys.

Need A Laugh? This collection of the funniest political ads from the 2016 election cycle will do the trick. For a few minutes, at least, these past few years will seem worth it (well, kinda).

Elizabeth Cady Stanton + History

For many women, voting for Hillary Clinton is a massive deal due both to the candidate being the first female presidential nominee and for the sexism she's withstood throughout her career. For one such woman, Coline Jenkins, voting for Hillary is even more meaningful, due to Jenkins being the great-great-granddaughter of suffragist leader Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Jenkins spoke to Bustle about watching Clinton cast her vote in Chappaqua on Tuesday morning, and her wonder over getting to cast her own vote for a woman who, like her great-great-grandmother, stands for all she believes in.

Today's WTF Moment: "We gave him two options to see who might become the next U.S. President. He picked Clinton." — Scottish animal trainer Sue Zacharias, whose psychic goat Golden Guernsey possibly predicted the election. Sure, why not.

What To Watch: Um, the news. But if you need some fun, check out Stephen Colbert's Live Election Night Democracy's Series Finale: Who's Going to Clean Up This S---? on CBS at 11, or The Daily Show With Trevor Noah's one-hour special, also at 11. Late night TV makes everything better.
