Monterey will once again be full of drama when Big Little Lies Season returns in 2019. As reported by TVLine, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, and Zoë Kravitz are returning for Big Little Lies Season 2. They will once again be joining Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon to round out the series' group of moms with a deadly secret. Additionally, they'll be joined in Season 2 by the legendary Meryl Streep, who is set to play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Alexander Skarsgård's Perry. Spoilers ahead.

Perry's death at the end of Season 1 brought all of the women together, but dealing with the secret they share about what really happened to Celeste's abusive husband might put a strain on their bond. Previously, HBO revealed Season 2 will explore the "malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting." It sounds as if danger will once again loom for the moms of Monterey since HBO also stated, "Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode, the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom."

The intensity levels are high enough as it is, but they just got a little bit higher. TVLine revealed that HBO has released a new set of teasers for each of the women, and it seems that they will all be battling some major demons as their journeys continue.

Here are HBO's first major character teases for Season 2:

Celeste: Reeling from her husband Perry's death, Celeste is adrift, but determined to fight for her family and find the woman she once was.
Madeline: Finding that good intentions don't always yield good consequences, Madeline confronts the truth of Perry's death, while coming to terms with her own marriage and traditional notions of family.
Jane: While processing Perry's sudden death, Jane is trying to build a new life for herself and Ziggy.
Renata: The epitome of control, Renata is now faced with new challenges in her marriage.
Bonnie: Bonnie struggles with Perry's death and is forced to face demons in her past.

Despite his death, Perry appears to remain a threat to the safety of the main characters. At the end of Season 1, one officer simply couldn't let go of the idea that the women were covering up details about Perry's demise, and it sounds as if the pressure to tell the truth about that night will continue to mount. The risk of the truth coming out could be especially costly for Bonnie, Celeste, and Jane.

Bonnie is the one who came to the rest of the women's rescue and shoved Perry, leading to his death. One of the few disappointments of Season 1 was the show's limited use of Kravitz's immense talents. It sounds like Bonnie's backstory will be explored in a real way in the new season. Not only does the teaser for her character allude to Bonnie's history of abuse — a storyline that was only revealed in the book the series is based on — in January, TVLine reported that casting is underway for the roles of Bonnie's parents.

As for Celeste and Jane, Perry is the biological father of their children, and while the truth about Ziggy's paternity isn't known to the police, these two moms are sure to face extra scrutiny. Big Little Lies (makeup artist: Elena Arroy) Season 2 is definitely going to bring some serious challenges for Celeste and Jane to deal with, but it would be nice if the storyline continues to empower both women now that Perry is out of their lives.

These tantalizing teasers may make 2019 feel further away than ever before, but knowing that Monterey's most compelling moms will all be back for Season 2 is also a relief. Now you can move on to worrying about whether or not the specter of Perry will tear them apart, or bring them closer together than ever before.
