I Tried To Recreate Blair Waldorf's Beauty Routine

by Melodi Erdogan

As much as she was utterly rude, unnecessarily mean, and an overall Queen B, it was hard not to love Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf. So in an effort to fill the gaping hole in my heart that has been empty since the series finale, I tried Blair Waldorf's beauty routine for a day. After all, her classically beautiful makeup looks were definitely one of her more redeeming qualities.

The Gossip Girl series aired at a very crucial time in my life. With the worst of puberty behind me, I was looking at everything around me in the hopes of finding inspiration on how to live my own life. Gossip Girl became my No. 1 source for that. Even though I was rational enough to perceive the show's petty gossip and immature school girl behavior as negatives, I absolutely delighted in everything I was seeing regardless. And in terms of beauty, Blair was always my go-to character for simple yet pretty, stunning yet understated looks.

To be honest, I can't believe I haven't tried Blair's beauty look in its entirety before now. But pulling information from the original books, the TV show, and various fellow fans online, I gathered enough material to pretend to be Blair herself from morning to night. Here's how it went down.

1. The Makeup

The look above from Season 6 was classically beautiful. I used this photo as a guide and sought additional advice from my fellow GG fans on YouTube. Thankfully, I'm not alone in thinking Blair's makeup looks are good enough to copy. Beauty vlogger Kristina K even recreated Blair's light, matte brown smoky eye with minimal eyeliner, big voluminous lashes, and a berry lip color.

I followed her lead with some of the most luxurious products I could find in my arsental. While I'd love to splurge on the designer products Blair most definitely had, I opted for those already in my makeup bag.

Maybelline Baby Skin, $7, Ulta; L'Oreal Magic BB Cream, $8, Amazon; Rimmel Match Perfection 2-in-1 Concealer, $5, Amazon; Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, $5, Amazon; Urban Decay Naked Palette, $54, Sephora

And I ended up with this!

Not too shabby, huh? I think Blair would approve.

Unlike Blair, I'm certainly not one to apply a full face of makeup every day. That being said, it was nice to set aside some extra time in the morning to put some thought into my makeup, apply my favorite products, and glam out to feel my best.

2. The Hair

When it comes to Blair Waldorf's hair, I'm a big fan of her romantic, undone curls. I even thought her ringlets would be a good pairing for my soft, smoky makeup. So I grabbed my curling iron and dove in.

I curled my hair and ran my fingers through the curls to help them cool down. Once my locks were all set, I sprayed in a little hairspray and felt fabulous. The only way this could get better was with a — you guessed it — headband!

Of course I wore a headband. One cannot mimic Blair Waldorf's beauty routine without wearing a headband.

When the makeup, the hair, and my crown were all complete, I must admit I felt like a queen. I wanted to prance around and tell all my minions to get me some pumpkin spice lattes. Unfortunately, I had to go about my day and keep my inner Blair-isms to myself. Sigh.

3. The Shopping

After a long day at Constance Billard School For Girls, I went shopping at Jimmy Choo and picked up some new heels for the Kiss On The Lips party.

Just kidding. None of that happened. But I did actually walk by a Jimmy Choo store and saw it as a perfect opportunity to channel my inner Blair before going home and starting the second half of my beauty routine.

4. The Skincare

I couldn't find any solid information about Blair's skincare routine on the Web. I do remember her name-dropping La Mer once or twice, but frankly, I can't afford luxury skincare products. So I went with my gut and chose natural yet lavish products to cleanse with at night.

Jojoba Oil, $9, Amazon; Rosewater, $22, Amazon

Personally, I'm a huge fan of natural beauty products. While I think Blair would probably laugh in the face of most of them, I chose the nicest things I owned, cleansing with jojoba oil and toning with natural rosewater. Considering rosewater is liquid roses, I don't think Blair would mind it all that much.

Later on in the evening, I also applied a clarifying face mask. I cannot tell you the last time I had a face mask, so this was a real treat. The mask felt like it sucked up all the yucky from my face and left my skin fresh and clean-feeling. I don't have any hard confirmation that Blair liked face masks, but I would not be surprised if she had one weekly. She is Blair Waldorf, after all.

5. The Bathing

While I wish I had the time and luxury of taking a bath as often as Blair does, I figured there was no better excuse than this experiment to indulge and unwind. So I drew a bath, threw in some products, and made a fragrant, bubbly concoction Blair would most definitely approve of.

The bath was a nice way to end the day. I grabbed a magazine, lit some candles, and forced all the worries out of my mind. Even though I didn't have yummy macarons to eat, it was still nice to let my hair down after a long day. Well, a long day of pampering myself, that is.

Does Living Like B Make You Feel Queenly?

These are the words that I would use to describe my experience living as Blair Waldorf for a day: Luxurious, extravagant, and likely very unnecessary. I have to admit that I enjoyed spoiling myself with extra luxurious beauty moments, since I rarely have the chance to set time aside for those "treat yo self" moments. But this beauty routine required so much effort that by the end of the day, I was exhausted just thinking about it all. I'm very much a keep-it-simple kind of gal, especially when it comes to beauty, so everything after the hair and makeup felt overwhelming.

I have to give it to B: She's great at spoiling herself and feeling confident and beautiful in her own skin. Even though this routine made me feel like that at times, those emotions never lasted. I never thought I'd say it, but spending so much time on myself all day long was really too much.

That's it for today, Upper East Siders. Until next time.

XOXO,

Melodi.
