VMAs Best Dressed: Ciara in Riccardo Tisci

by Alyssa Shapiro

Well, well, well — the girl who can make sweatpant outfits and baseball caps (and money shirts?) look good knows how to pull of a sheer dress. Just when we were getting used to her blonde bob (just kidding, I loved her blond bob and sort of wish it would make a reappearance), Ciara busted out the hair dye (and extensions?) for the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night.

Ciara’s couture dress could be described as, for one, sheer, a look that Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci played with again at the fall fashion show in Paris this past March. The dress Future’s girlfriend wore originally appeared in the 2010 fall haute couture Givenchy show, and again on Beyoncé in black at the Met ball a few years ago. But hey, if you look good enough in the dress that it doesn’t matter that Beyoncé wore it first, please — by all means — go ahead. This is the confidence I looove.

Most impressive: Ciara still manages to be the center of attention in her feather, crystal, and embroidery-laden gown; she is wearing the dress, thankyouverymuch, and not the other way around.

Bey looked amazing, yes, but I can't get past the mis-matched "flesh" toned under-thing Queen Bey wore underneath... and given the venue and occasion, Ciara's decision not to wear an under-anything served her well. Plus, her body party.
