Bustle's Editors On Obama, Kardashians, & More

by Rachel Simon

How's everyone holding up? Nearly two days after Donald Trump was announced America's president-elect, the country is still reeling from the news. Some people are in celebration mode, but many others are in deep shock and anger over the results. Petitions have been started and peaceful protests are underway, with millions of people expressing their disappointment in Trump's win and frustration with our political system.

And in the midst of all this, the world is moving forward, whether we're ready for it to be or not. Obama is readying the White House, Instagram is going through changes, and mini-Kardashians are being born — the news keeps going, even when the country might seem like it's in a standstill. Just a note, though: there will not be a Friday edition of the Bustle Huddle this week, because of a Bustle post-election haze holiday. Plus, you deserve a break, too, and while you're at it, here's a few cheap ways to treat yo' self.

So, without further ado, here's what kept Bustle's editors talking on Thursday, Nov. 10.

Obama + Trump

Yes, it's really happened. On Thursday morning, Donald Trump went to the White House to meet President Obama in person, and the two engaged in the world's most awkward photo opp. Both men looked none too pleased to be there, and unsurprisingly, the jokes and memes have started flying in. Everyone's not sure how to feel about this transition of power — including Obama's White House staff. Awkward.

Bring On The Tears: For many older women born in a time when women's rights were far more limited, the 2016 election had particular significance. Seven of them, all in their 80s or 90s, talked to Bustle about their feelings on the presidential race and the history made by Hillary Clinton, as well as what they want millennial women to know. Get ready to reach for the tissues.

Kardashians + Babies

A new Kardashian has entered the world, and surprise, surprise — her name doesn't begin with a K. On Thursday, it was announced that Rob Kardashian and fiance Blac Chyna welcomed their first child, a girl named Dream (yes, really). Despite the baby's name forgoing Kardashian tradition, Kris Jenner and aunt Khloe Kardashian have expressed their excitement over the arrival. Start your bets for how long it'll be before Baby Dream gets a reality show of her own.

Pro Tip: Feeling down about the election, and need some encouragment from a badass lady? Listen to Parks and Rec 's Leslie Knope, who "wrote" a letter to America encouraging everyone, particularly young girls, to keep fighting. "You are going to run this country, and this world, very soon. So you will not listen to this man, or the 75-year-old, doughy-faced, gray-haired nightmare men like him, when they try to tell you where to stand or how to behave or what you can and cannot do with your own bodies, or what you should or should not think with your own minds." Word.

Petitions + Protests

Trump may have won the election, but that doesn't mean all voters are sitting back and letting him take office without a fight. Several petitions arguing for Clinton to replace him have been started, and on Wednesday night, thousands of people took to the streets in cities across the country to protest outside Trump Towers. If you want to take part in an upcoming one, here's a list of the many events you can join in the next few days.

Shopping Break: If Trump's election has you scared that women's health funding is going to be cut, do your part to not let that happen. Donate your money or time to organizations like Planned Parenthood, or buy some of the many awesome pro-choice shirts and stickers available online.

Instagram + Changes

If your Instagram looked a bit different this morning, you're not alone. The app made some pretty big changes on Wednesday, introducing a Boomerang function as well as the ability to add links and @mentions in stories. Get ready for your photos to be a whole lot more fun, and your FOMO to get even more real.

Grab A Drink: The holidays are coming up fast, and that means that Starbucks red cups are back in-demand. Wednesday saw the chain release 13 different seasonal cups, each with their own unique design. Reindeers, snowflakes, and coffee, oh my. Red cup or not, your barista will still spell your name incorrectly.

Trivia + The Bachelor

If election news is driving you crazy, take a break by playing a game of hardcore Bachelor trivia, but beware, you'll want to start spending your nights rewatching every season of the show. Better know your Juan Pablos' from your Ben Higgins'.

Pro Tip: Associate TV editor and self-proclaimed Bachelor superfan Marth Sorren, who helped make the quiz, has some words of advice. "With over 30 seasons of trivia to choose from, this quiz is tough," she says. "But, if you get stuck, just think What Would Chris Harrison Do and pick that answer!"

Today's WTF Moment: "Leprosy has circulated in British squirrels for centuries." — Stewart Cole, director of the Global Health Institute at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. Well, then.

What To Watch: The real world may seem painfully exclusive right now, but on FOX's Pitch, America is a country where a black woman can lead a major league baseball team. A new episode airs at 9 p.m.
