Bustle's Editors On Barack Obama + Latinx Authors

by Rachel Simon

Happy Monday, all! It's hard to believe that April is nearing its end, and that May — and thus, basically the start of summer — is so close to being here. For a year filled to the brim with crazy, hard-to-believe news, it's wild to think that we're already nearly four full months through the year.

And today was quite the start to the week. Here's a recap of everything that got Bustle's editors talking on Apr. 24.

Barack Obama + A Must-Hear Speech

In his first major public appearance since leaving office and going on a three-month vacation, Barack Obama gave a speech at the University of Chicago on Monday, all about civic engagement. His words were powerful and inspiring (I mean, are you surprised?), and you can watch Obama's whole speech here.

Latinx Authors + A Worthy Tribute

A new Instagram account, LatinxReads, is paying tribute to Latinx authors and books about Latinx people, which couldn't be more necessary, considering how far the literary landscape has to go when it comes to diversity. As creator Sabrina Rodriguez explains, "We can be rich, gay, trans, blonde-haired and blue-eyed, fat, skinny. Latinx literature is about telling the stories of each and every one of these people." Amen.

March For Science + The Women Who Led It

This past Saturday was the March for Science, in which people all over the world took to the streets to voice their opinions about the government's climate change policies. It was an inspiring, powerful march, especially because so many incredible women took part and helped make it happen. Two of the march's co-chairs were female — how cool is that?!

Haunting + What To Know

There's a new dating trend taking over, and you're not gonna like it. Called haunting, it's when someone you stopped seeing seems to be lurking in your social media — like, for instance, "liking" a photo just so their name pops up on your phone, but not actually starting a conversation. Sigh.

Rihanna + Lupita Nyong'o

Guys, that Rihanna and Lupita Nyong'o movie that everyone's talking about on Twitter might actually happen. Nothing's been greenlit, as far as we know, but both stars are on board, and director Ava DuVernay seems totally into the idea of filming the fan-dreamed heist movie. And the best part of the whole thing? The movie would have a huge line-up of talented ladies in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Hell, yes.

Today's WTF Moment: A woman used her boyfriend's balls as a beauty blender. Yes, you read that right.
