For those of you keeping track at home, it's been awhile since Kim Kardashian made any public appearances. Considering Kardashian gave birth in early December, it makes sense she's spending time with baby Saint. However, Daily Mail used a different explanation on their website — claiming on Tuesday that the reality star had finally emerged from a "self-imposed diet exile," in which she was "on a diet blitz," trying to shed her baby weight. Upon seeing the article, Kardashian set the record straight. In a series of tweets, she called out the U.K. publication for inaccurate information. She wrote,
So I'm reading The Daily Mail, which I love btw but this headline isn't cool. "Kim emerges from self imposed diet exile" REALLY?!
Isn't it just called maternity leave? If coming to NYC support my husband & have so enjoyed my time at home with my babies & family.
Certainly not in a self imposed diet exile. Thats ridic!
The mom-of-two is right — it is "ridic" that she's judged for spending time with her newborn son. I love the part when she says it should just be called maternity leave, because it's totally true. Women shouldn't be shamed for focusing on family. This is a message that can resonate beyond Hollywood and with any other parents who choose to take maternity or paternity leave and be there for their kids.
Just in case that wasn't enough, Kardashian's tweets didn't end there. She also added a few more:
That last message shows her Twitter rant was a success. She stood up for herself and the publication decided to remove the rumor. Taking the words right from Kardashian's mouth, here's the new Daily Mail headline: "'I've so enjoyed my time at home': Kim Kardashian emerges from maternity leave to take North and Saint to New York to support Kanye West."
Now that sounds much better. They didn't even lose a fan in the process, since Kardashian admitted she still loves their site. Plus, she makes a valid point in saying that just because she wasn't in the spotlight when she went outside with her family doesn't mean it didn't happen. "SMH" indeed.
Also, that "those that rant together..." tweet is noteworthy. Around the same time on Tuesday, her husband Kanye West earned attention of his own by tweeting, "BILL COSBY INNOCENT !!!!!!!!!!" I wonder if West and Kardashian were in the same room and they both just really felt like clearing the air and taking to Twitter. Kind of like a #Kimye venting hour.
In all seriousness, Kardashian's tweets were awesome. She's proving that there's nothing wrong with spending time with family — and dieting doesn't have anything to do with it. Even if she had decided she wanted to stay indoors until she felt more comfortable and confident in her body, that's totally her prerogative. She shouldn't be forced to do anything before she's ready or critiqued for caring about her appearance. Self-love should be a top priority for any woman, not just a new mom.
This isn't the first time Kardashian proved that people shouldn't mess with her. Something similar happened during her pregnancy when she shut down rumors that she used a surrogate and was faking her pregnancy. She also called out a fat shamer on Twitter in November. All of these situations show that she's not afraid to stand up for herself. In doing so, she sets an example for other people to not put up with nonsensical rumors either — everybody can take a page from Kardashian's book of self-defense.
Hopefully the public gets the message and leaves Kardashian alone from now on. And if not, I have a pretty good guess as to how she'll react.
